Has filled their position before Tennessee has.

Can we stop with the **** that everyone is dying to coach here? Malfunction management or not, a lot of people don't want the pressure and challenge. They'd rather beat Texas Tech and their biggest moment be playing in the Cotton Bowl. We have to realize this isn't for everyone.

Who has said everyone is dying to coach here?

Well, they have seen 3 head coaches get fired, and one quit in the last 10 years. That should be a sobering thought of where your career could be headed.

I think it's the attitude of entitlement.

I love the Vols, and I naturally want a big name coach to swoop in and rescue the program. However, the reality is that the administration has problems; and, while we pride ourselves on our "passion," it is perceived by others as borderline mob-mentality.

It is what it is, and it will be another three to five years before we make a leap forward. That's just where we are.

The Tennessee brand has definitely took a hit this past decade and the last few weeks have been a kick in the sack for the brand. This hire could put an exclamation point on the "look at us, we're mediocre" narrative folks like to push

Mike leach was willing to come here. Also believe that brohm would've come if UT didn't botch it last week

When you've fired a national title winner it gives pause to a lot of coaches.

Plus, no one wants to be the next Dooley or Jones.

What Top coach is going to want to deal with UT’s Administration who doesn’t give a crap about winning?

It’s not that coaches aren’t interested.

They don’t want to deal with stupidity.

Being rated lower than Vanderbilt doesn't do Tennessee any favors:popcorn:

Just because UT's admin is a joke doesn't mean coaches are lining up for the job:eek:lol:

I have a feeling the Vols are going to continue to be bottom feeders for the near future and possibly beyond:banghead2:

That's why we need a Tennessee guy. Tee knows what to expect. C'mon Phil, Tee's ready.

The fan base has shown that they do not have the patience it will take for someone to build the program. The fan base has shown that they will turn on a coach with the first bad season. And the local media constantly stirs the pot lauding the good old days.

It is a toxic environment .... the legion of the miserables.

Every School hates us, because they have had to increase their coaches salary due to us.

Can everyone stop with the we need a Tennessee guy. None of these coaches really care, it comes down to money or some family related issue. Saban is not from Bama but he destroys people year in and year out.

I'd disagree with this. This fan base didn't turn on the first bad season. The fans gave Dooley a chance and the fans gave Butch a chance. It was after repeated bad decisions, lack of player development, etc. There were some that were down on them day 1, but, I felt the majority backed the coaches and wished them well and success. Butch was given 5 years and it turned the wrong direction. What is the cutoff to be considered patient?

That and this is been the biggest cluster **** of a coaching search 🤪

Entitlement or not, if they blow this hire, the fans that are left after the nuclear bombs our ADs have detonated on our program will be gone. Empty stands, merchandise sales in the tank, lose season ticket holders, donations down. Bad things.

Its not because coaches won't come here. The Admin went out of their way to screw this up.

1) Didn't fire Butch after Georgia to take a multi-week lead on officially interviewing Miles and Kelly and announce to all agents where we were at.
2) Didn't use a search firm.
3) Made a list of two stretch candidates and a coach that should have never been considered.
4) Didn't interview a well regarded coach proven in the SEC that should have been the floor. Coach ends up going to a rival (Dan Mullens).
5) Went all in on a coach no one else would even interview for a HC job the past 6 years except, big shock, the Haslam Browns. Whose Front Office semi-publicly revolted at the thought of hiring him.
6) Didn't even go all in on him until after other teams were getting coaches.

That's all before the Volshevik Revolution that ran off Schiano. That's 7 errors that are beyond incompetent.

After the reVOLt, we end up hiring three coaches that should have been identified and contacted in back channels from step 2, long before anyone else had a coaching position open.

There was a stack of stupid beyond what any other program has ever gone through in hiring before this search even went national on Sunday afternoon.

I don't disagree. I was discussing with a friend of mine what it takes for a storied program to reach "critical mass." We decided the key indicator is the fans.

Once a large percentage of the fans abandon your program, the death spiral begins. That's not to say that it can't be turned around, but the stars have to align to make that happen. For example, Richt has done a great job in year two at the U, but look what had to happen to put him there.
