Pound it. Pound it. Pound it.

No. I am not talking to Ron Jeremy. I am saying that Tennessee football IS the running game. We HAVE to run the ball and we need to not abandon the running game. I am with CDCut in that we should run the ball until they adjust and stop it. We have two quality backs. We have a line that desperately needs to establish itself after 5 years of mediocrity. I think we need to run the ball up the middle and pound the $hizzel out of them and we will win the game. It's an attitude thing. We are TN. We are in the SEC. We do not lose to NCST. That is just not acceptable.

Run the ball, Smash Mouth Football. Kick their teeth in! Make them hope its a pass, just so they can get a breather.

I agree with this. NC St strength is their secondary. We need to pound the rock and run the clock and keep the ball away from their offense. Basically play Alabama style football. Hopefully that's the game plan. Obviously NC St will be expecting a strong air attack. I would give them a dose of the exact opposite.

Air it out! JH11, CP and MR are huge assets! That said when they do run make the NCST pay for not respecting the run game. Neal should be feared.

Can't wait to see Neal run now that he's been coached by Graham. DY and Lane for change of pace and depth could make this rushing attack the most improved in the nation.

Yes I am a fan of Tennessee football and understand our ground and pound heritage. I understand how important it is to establish a running game this week and trust me it is, if not at the top, near the top of Dooley's priority list. That being said I think to ground and pound would be to neglect this teams strengths. Finding the correct balance is the key to Dooley's continued career at Tennessee.

What if they don't even have to adjust and simply stonewall it from the outset just like everyone did last year? The o-line could be improved, but we've got a pretty big sample size on these guys, and run blocking simply isn't their forte. IMO, as the passing game goes, so goes this team.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the staff's MO. I think they need to understand that midway through the first quarter, if you're not running the ball well doesn't mean to scrap it altogether. I agree that our strength is the passing game. Or at least on paper it should be. But, man, when a team goes in and can run the ball at will, three beautiful things happen:
1. The offense gains unbelievable confidence.
2. The defense rests
3. 3rd and 1 is not a 50-50 tossup. It's more like 90-10 which it should always be for UT football. Chains move. Their defense gets tired.

Simply put, you win.

I agree. If we could run the ball for 4 yards on every play that would be the most dominant offense possible. That said, this o-line has spent 2 years proving that they either can't, or won't do that. They are great at pass blocking, but not so much with run blocking. The physical size is certainly there, but they just don't seem to have the mindset to do it.

so with the possibility of having one of the most prolific passing attacks in vols history, you're saying pound it. hmmmm, makes sense.

I think that pretty much went out the window when DR was kicked off the team, but the passing game should still be good. I doubt a passing attack that features Zach Rogers as our third option is going to approaching any sort of "Greatest of All-Time" status.

Amen. Show em' like we did Montana to open last year. Don't give up on it and keep pounding it. We are UT!
