Potpourri

Guys, this is the actual last broadcast of Jane Dornacker (The nurse in The Right Stuff) as the helicopter she was broadcasting from, crashed into the Hudson River. She had survived a previous helicopter crash just a few months earlier...

Rooster, the magnificent, so great to hear from you my friend....I have not been posting very much lately...No definite reason, just my biorhythms (dated term) have been directed elsewhere.

In the late 90's, 7 good friends and myself, went on a 2 week golfing adventure into Baja California, and other areas of lower Mexico......We had a small caravan of SUVs' going down the long black highways of Mexico.

A couple of the guys were married (no wives allowed on trip) so I spoke to their wives and assured them it was just golfing....It would give them a chance to miss each other, and when they returned it would be an epic romantic reunion....

We played a variety of gambling games, such as Nassau, Triple 6 Nassau, and a couple more. Also, on every par 4 or 5, each of us was in for $10 for longest drive, and 5 bucks for shortest number of putts....If a guy couldn't long drive too well, he usually could putt, so it almost always balanced out......almost that is.

Our fail safe system, so no one lost too much money each day, was each days winner had to pick up the bar tab and pay the (big) tip at dinner.....Some days it paid not to win....LOL.

The only negative happenings of the long trip was a couple of the guys forgot about the hazards of Mexican water....One guy swung very hard to get his drive out for the bucks for the longest drive, but "Montezuma's Revenge" took hold and he made a mess on himself....He could not stop[ passing gas...Of course, we could not stop laughing at his misfortune....He was easy money for a few days after that...

GT, I have spent many moments reading your stories and I just wanted to say I enjoy them all. So glad you started this thread, it’s a great excursion from everything else. Always wishing you the best, I’ve often thought If I could sit down with any of the posters on this site and get to know them better I think I would enjoy my time with you. Maybe one day, in the meanwhile I like your style dude.

good news... youngest daughter just told us she got hired today.... some kind of media marketing management position where she will be the top banana for the firm. Said it offered a 33% raise over her last job (similar position) which was very well $ compensated. Glad for her as she had been wasting her time for the past year. So, that makes 3 of the four kidlets who are doing great and making enuff $ to survive. the other is a stay at home mommy/substitute teacher, now whose hubby is a college professor.

Don't know yet if daughter will be relocating from Charlotte... :(

Chuck, until today I never knew Gilley's burned down in 1990.....I went to Houston on a convention around 1987....While there in Houston, a couple agents and myself took a cab to Gilley's to see the legend...It was midweek and the place was not real crowded, but we still had a lot of fun... One of our guys rode the mechanical bull and he busted his balls real good....Had to ice em down back at the hotel....He limped for a few days.

P.S. I was really impressed with the rodeo in the back of the place...We "California cowboys" were all dressed in our coats and ties from the convention...Had a few ugly comments directed our way by some of the locals....I told my pals it would be too easy to shut em up, so let em cuss us...Afterall, when we leave we're going back to San Diego, with all it has to offer.

Rarely did I ever go full blown “Cowboy” but there were occasions. The aforementioned trip to Gilley’s was certainly one. Put my elkskin boots on and donned my felt Cowboy hat! 🤠 My mother-in-law was in awe of Gene Watson, sitting at the stage, at a front row table. Dressing up was the least i could do… 😉🤙🏼
That trip was in ‘87, ‘88 ?

Sad but true. Scary episode last week for me. I had to climb up into the rafters of our house to fix a bathroom ceiling light's mounting bracket and outlet. Hardly no head space room once I located exactly where it was under all the blown in insulation. And it was at the very back of the house from the entry stairs. I finally snaked my way back there , managed to fix the bracket and started climbing back out when my legs started giving out on me and I was almost about to pass out. I made it down the stairs and lay flat on the garage concrete floor for about 20 minutes till my heart rate improved. I was totally out of it for 2 days. no strength in my legs and everything hurt. I have a at home heart monitor in my bedroom but it never alerted that I was into AFIB.
I started researching online for a reason that my legs had gone wimpy on me and it seems to be endemic to old folks like me. I have started a stretching and exercise regime to see if I can gain some strength back . Asian squats and what they call "horse poses" . Don't know if it is helping much but I sure am getting sore... lol After 3 days of this crap, it seems that I pulled something loose in the old urinary tract.. been peeing red all day... just a tiny bit but enuff to notice.

can't win for losing I guess.

I don't want to alarm you, but have you received a medical opinion on your condition ? Please do so if you haven't already. I have a relative who had somewhat similar symptoms: weakness in the legs, elevated heart rate, dark colored urine. Turns out they had Rhabdomyolysis. Not saying that you do also. It would be ridiculous to make a diagnosis without an examination. Just saying you should seek a medical opinion.
