Potential RB Coach - Gerald Brown

Timing is always an issue with NFL coaches - especially those on teams headed to the playoffs.

Would be an amazing hire. Imagine having the ability to go into a kid's home in Georgia and say, "Yeah, you know Michael Turner? I coached him."

The way they looked yesterday they aren't going to the playoffs. If this happens I just became the fan of whoever is playing the birds. We need a guy in place sooner than later.

i think his special team coaching is a major plus also

Brown’s coaching performance at Indiana in his first five seasons earned him the Assistant Head Coach title on top of his duties as Special Teams Co-Coordinator and Running Backs Coach in 2007. The Hoosiers ranked third in the Big Ten in scoring offense in 2007 (31.7 points per game) while the team logged 157.4 rushing yards per game. With an assist from Brown, Indiana kicker Austin Starr led the conference in field goal percentage with a 91.3 mark (21 of 23). In 2006, Marcus Thigpen led the nation in kickoff return average (30.1) while the university led the nation in the category in 2004.

Ok, am I the only one to say no to this?? We need an elite recruiter, and this guy recruited last at Indiana. This would be a mistake.

He should be able to recruit pretty well just on the "look who I've coached" method.

I don't know if this is true or not, but someone told me CCB couldn't close in Atlanta. Brown should be able to.

The guy has never recruited Atlanta heavily. His last job as a college coach was at Indiana, and they don't go too far out to recruit for football.

I thought he was highly regarded as a recruiter there??(If that's possible)

Anybody remember him being rumored to join the LK staff here? During those rumors I think I recall him being considered a very good recruiter.

Right, but coaching for the Falcons should help.

"Here, son. This is Michael Turner's number. Call him and ask about me."

Kinda like what Chuck Smith did with Michael Strahan.

He wasn't rumored to be coming here. If this happens, then I'm not sure Dooley understands how paramount it is to get one ace recruiter on staff. He may understand it, but it's painful to see it being handled the way it is.

It's Michael Turner, what coaching does he exactly need?? You have to be able to develop players in college, and you don't exactly do that at a real high level in the NFL. Players may need some polishing, but they are in the league for a reason.

If he is indeed Kippy Brown's brother... I don't see how he could miss as a recruiter... maybe rusty at first but Kippy was the real deal at recruiting.... wish he had been named HC when "what's his name" bolted for USC

I think we already have some ace recruiters. Say what you want about chuck smith but he did do pretty well in the recruiting category, and brown has ALOT more experience than chuck had coming in as far as coaching at the college level

Well if this is the route we are going why don't we call Kippy up and get them both. Rumor has it we need a WR coach too...

(Yes, I know CCB is gone).

I like Jay Graham and all, but what says he is an ace recruiter? The ace would be Porter but we are not going to pull him. Graham recuited Lattimore, an instate player. Not sure how one player makes him an ace.

We don't have that ace recruiter right now, like the top SEC teams have. We need that, period.

Lattimore was going to the Cocks regardless.

We could also use some quality coaching to fix the run game. We don't seem like we're about to hire a quality offensive line coach, so I'd like to get at least one competent coach involved. I don't know much about Brown, but this team needs coaching more than recruiting at this moment if they want to have any meaningful success next year.
