Potential coaching replacements

Leavitt is a loose cannon on the sideline...a little too much excitement for me. Don't get me wrong...we need someone with some energy, but this guy is about to blow a gasket on every play.

The last time CPF blew a gasket was in 1986 while driving an old Ford down I-75.

JL has built that program from scratch. He turned down Bama before they had to settle for MS. He is not going anywhere. USF is fund raising as we speak, to build him an on campus stadium.

Someone mentioned Sanders. Considering what he has done at KY. He should be given some consideration. I personally think he was Fulmers scapegaot and the victim of message board hype. Someone will pick him up for a head coach job in the next two years and I think that someday we may all might be saying, Wow, he was right under our nose.

has anyone heard that boise state head coach chris peterson may be headed to rocky top? and is he really a good candidate for the job?

What exactly has he done at KY? He is the QB coach. He has done a fine job at that, but I don't see where that translates to being a good head coach especially how IMO he wasn't even a very good OC at UT.

This has to be a joke, right?

I've said this before, but IMO Fulmer has already accepted retirement, it's done. As major "tell" for that I cite the $1,000,000 gift from Phil and Spouse made to the University, $500,000 ear marked for the athletic program. HFC simply does not give the old alma mater that kind of jack unless the conflict of interest has already been removed. Phil will announce retirement this year.
His replacment is already picked, or the AD has license to negotiate in total secrecy. Personally, I do not believe it will be a current D1 HC. I cannot see UT going with one of the spread offense gurus, only because of UTs tradition in populating the pros with big time pro-style talent. This is a major recruiting "get" for the Vols. I want the person to be defense first and offense second with a balanced approach to passing and running. This is UT football.
Who then fits this criteria? I tend to think the person will come from the pros or is an assistant somewhere.

Look, I don't think Rutgers is a BCS team but they are a good team. They had a huge year in 2006 and they beat South Florida this year. I mean good as in it wasn't a major upset losing to them. They are ranked in the AP poll but I agree the conference isn't on par with the SEC.

yeah, but neither was Utah in the Mountain West and Urban Meyer has faired pretty well so far, wouldn't you say?

he is just Ky's QB coach...get real!!!!

Tubberville is 5-1 v. top 5. Has a winning record against UF. This is with less talent then we have in Knoxville. Also when did he lose to Ole Miss?

Gettying Tubby would be like replacing Fulmer with a clone, maybe even a clone of a clone.... because you know a copy is never as good. The '03 and '04 Auburn teams were the most talented in the country. The Auburn slide in '03 was almost as bad as the UT slide in '05.

1999 5-6
2000 9-4
2001 7-5
2002 9-4
2003 8-5
2004 13-0
2005 9-3
2006 11-2

He's only got 2 seasons with 10+ wins. He's only 1 SEC Championship.

Losses include Miss State ('00), Syracuse ('01), Arkansas ('01, '02, '06), North Carolina ('01), Georgia Tech ('03&'05), Mississippi ('03), Wisconsin ('05)

He has a tendency to get up for the big games and lose the little ones. Kind of reminds me alot of Johnny Majors.

Sanders is the QB Coach, but don't forget he was the OC at UT for 8 years and my guess is that he is running the offense at KY. The only changes in the KY staff that has paralleled thier winning has been Sanders. Who told you he was a bad OC?...Fulmer? No ,Sanders would not be my pick to lead UT, but I think in time, he will be a hot commodity in the coaching ranks and his sins will be forgiven, if had any even to begin with. If KY KOs UT, don't be surprised who will be getting all the credit.

as i so humbly learned, Joker Phillips is the OC at KY.

Auburn could very well beat Alabama again this year. Like i said earlier, Auburn has owned Bama through the probation years, but even with the drastic scholarship reductions, Auburn hasnt been able to throw Bama a beating. 11 points is the largest margin of victory. Times have begun to change, Saban of course improving the teams production, but the main thing right now is recruiting. He is kicking Tubbys Azz up one side and down the other. Bama is not going to be the same Bama that you have seen over the last several years. My whole intention in this thread was when i saw Tubby's name mentioned by some of you as a good replacement to Fulmer was to just possibly give you some insight on Tubby. You cant tell me that you would be pleased in settling for a coach, just to make a change. Bama has done that alot. and we settled for year after year mediocracy. Tennessee is too big of a University to have to settle. They can go after the big hire, and get a well established, big name coach.

recruiting is overrated look at ND and look at USC losing to Stanford.......TT finds players to fit his systems

When will this Coaching Change take Place. Hard to pick a candidate for 2010. Do not think MH will let him go or force him out.
