Potential coaching replacements

Petrino would be my first choice, although he will be expensive. I have to believe that Pelini will be offered and accept the Nebraska job. Among current head coaches, obvious names will be Rodriguez, Schiano, Leavitt, and Tedford. I don't have a lot of faith that these guys will leave their current positions for Knoxville. Gary Patterson might come if offered. Among assistants, we will hear about Muschamp, Strong, Pelini (see above), and Jimbo Fisher. My pick from the current assistant pool would be Brent Venables, who has served on the staffs at K-State and Oklahoma. Young guy with energy. Recruiting ties to the midwest and Texas. Good choice IMO.

Pelini is at the top of Nebraska's list. Paul Johnson is sitting in third right now.

Since Fulmer will more than likely be dropped after this year, who is available that you would consider the new HC.

Someone at work was talking about the Utah coach.
I like Jim Leavitt, dunno if he would leave USF tho.

i'll take anybody who isn't in the good ole boy system

I have to believe that all the vacancies will open up at approximately the same time...so would that not mean that we would be in the same position as the ohers??....A & M, Nebraska, etc?

Lex, can you think of a better fit for a fanbase that wants the option than Paul Johnson in Nebraska.

Not in a million years. I spoke to a very connected buddy of mine in Omaha, and expected Johnson to be at the very top of the list. He said that Pelini was one, the coach at Wyoming is two?????, and that Johnson was the third option right now.

My first thought was that Tom Osbourne has gone "Robert Byrd" on Nebraska.

I asked about Pelini to Nebraska in the sports forum a few days ago and got very limited response. The guy that screwed him over is now gone, so will he go back?

And again, you didn't read the original question or my response. The most likely scenario between Charlie Strong vs Cutcliffe would be Cutcliffe.

There's is no reason in the world to think that Charlie Strong is high enough on anybody's current list of hot coaches that he would be a more likely candidate at Tennessee next year than Cutcliffe (assuming Fulmer resigns rather than gets fired).

Cutcliffe has zero chance of being UT's next head football coach. Charlie Strong has about a 10% chance.

I would swap those odds. But we'll just have to agree to disagree on this minor point I suppose.

The fact is that neither of them would be my first choice/preference.

When we were speculating about Buzz's job and were dreaming about our next b-ball coach, how many people had Bruce Pearl in their top 3? top 5? top 10? Knew who he was? Be honest.

How about Bill Belicheck? He was born in Tennessee.

If Tennessee offered the job over A&M, Tubberville would take it. A&M is a scrub program compared to the Vols. We are 2nd all-time program in SEC. We probably are 4th or 5th in SEC right now in program status.

well Auburn....football wise is better than TN right now, i dont think 'ears' well ever come to knoxville but auburn is a better football team than tennessee right now....imo

Under your logic, USF and WVU are premiere jobs right now in the country. Far more so then Tennesseee, Auburn, Nebraska, A&M, Miami, or FSU.

Answer these questions please, Tenn or Auburn

Who has more fans?

Who is the premiere state university in their state?

Which state has more people and stronger economy?

Which school has a bigger athletic department?

Which program currently has more players in the pros?

Which program has more AP top ten and top 25 finishes?

Which program has more SEC Championships?

Which program had the better recruiting class last year?

Which program has more National Titles?

The answer to all those questions is Tennessee. Tennessee is better then Auburn.
