The postgame interview really made me proud to be a Vol. After Ainge continuously took responsibility for his interceptions that lost the game for the Vols, CPF jumped in with the following:

COACH FULMER: I don't want to
interrupt. We play as a football team, and as I said
earlier, we wouldn't be here if it weren't for the play
of both of these young men on my right. He's
sitting here and being very forthcoming and some
of that, but he also played a heck of a football
game and got us to Atlanta to play in this game, so
I'm not going to sit here and let him take all the
blame. We could have darn sure played better in a
lot of places, and you win as a team, you lose as a
team. There's enough blame to go around for the
staff and the coaches and the players. It's not that
kind of game. Football is a team game.

He may not win every game, and he may not be as flashy as some would like-- but he's a classy gentleman and he represents Tennessee and the SEC extremely well.

We know he is a good and respectable man, but that has nothing to do with coaching ability

I restect CPF as a human being... very much... but as a coach... hmmm... my faith for him is going downhill...

This is it. We are now where some of us feared this was heading for several years now. We can no longer judge out team and their staff based on it's on the field exploits but we have to resort to the moral victories (playing close, being classy, giving it the ole' college try, etc.). I respect the right of anyone to support whoever they wish but this is 9 years now. How long do we have to be the freaking bridesmaid before we can get hitched to another trophy??? I feel for the players but the outpouring of support for Fulmer & Co. since last night is infurating. :furious3:

CPF had the team up. Dropped passes and poor execution led to this loss.

I'm not a Fulmerite, I've been highly critical of him over the years, but I can't lay this loss at his feet. The plays were there, but Rogers and Moore dropped passes that hit them in the chest.

Fulmer had this team the best prepared they have been all season in the biggest game of the year. CPF earned his paycheck.

Fulmer is a good man who cares about his players, and that's good to know.

You can't lay this loss at his feet, but no titles since '98 is his fault.

Yeah, the coaches put guys in position to make plays. They did not. The benches emptied for this game, hell even O'Neal had a pass thrown his way.

The only thing that could be questioned is going away from Gerald running. That's really it.

They continued to run the sweep with Arian. That was stupid. But its not like it was being run even every drive, so that may be over-complaining.

I think our team was well prepared and Eric did a good job- just not great! We have had an up and down year for sure, but I was sure glad to be in the game to play LSU! One more bowl game then a few months off to wait and think about another year. I hate the winter and spring!!!

Funny you should post that. I guess it's only ok to talk about Fulmer when you can bash him for not taking responsibility. When he owns up (JUST as you all complain to want all the time) it doesn't matter.

If anyone on here thinks that they would be a better coach, then just head over to UT and see if they will give you an application.

Being a great coach is alot more than just want happens on the field on Saturday. CPF has given so much to UT and I think he deserves more respect for that.

fulmer did what you are supposed to do as a leader and a man after the loss. i'll give him credit. but that's not saying much.

As an alumni of UT (which I'm sure many of us are), I care not only about how the football team performs, but also how it represents the University. Phillip Fulmer is an institution in the state of Tennessee and that isn't going to change with anything that happens on the football field.

Even if he retired this offseason, who would you all propose be our coach? With all of the openings, it's hard for me to believe you'd get anyone better.

Those were not all sweeps, not in the sense that you guys make it out to be. Most of those were zone read plays. The middle was constantly clogged (poor OL push) and so AF continued to try and bounce them outside. Every time he ran outside it was not because the play was designed to go out there.

True, and without a squeaker win against Syracuse, a OT victory against FL, and the infamous Clint Stumbler play against Arky, we would not have a 1998 Conference & National Title.

I hope you are not implying that the our 98 NC wasn't legit.....because if you were you would be absolutely WRONG!

Nice post Justin. For the most part the fans have "stayed the course" as much as the coaches. The haters are still hating and the Fulmerites still support. The season went about as predicted so the outlook probably says more about the person than it does the football team. Go Big Orange!

I'll give Fulmer credit for turning this year around when it could have been a disaster. But I don't feel compelled to give Ainge a pass because he's willing to take the blame. How many 3 and outs can be attributed to his tosses out of bounds.
