Post Ole Miss Loss Positivity Thread

True but they were without their 3 best receivers they really had only one weapon on offense and that weapon gashed us all night long. We had no answer so before we erect statues of our new coaching staff we should ask why we had no answer for 1 player. I think we all forget Ole Miss had several dropped passes we were fortunate to even be in the game.

First, I haven't said anything near about making a definitive statement about our staff so I assume you're just venting about the general tone of other posts.

Next, football is a game of inches so we can point to various plays that tilted the game last night.

Last, I agree we had terrible execution when it came to QB runs both designed and scrambles. I just think our lack of star quality at LB showed up. Even when we spied, Corral was athletic enough to cut off the block of the lineman and sometimes other back who only had to chicken fight our LB for a few seconds why Corral went by.

With a QB like Corral you need to make him bounce it instead of easily being able to run up the gut. He took a beating at the end though but it was too late. He also proved to be fairly tough.

Total lack at LB cost them the game. Even when spied they could not get him on the ground. Hopefully the portal or this recruiting cycle will bring us help. Coaching is there, effort is there, just need more talent and depth. I am still pissed about losing but we sure have something to be excited about moving forward.

My positive is that if we scored every possession we had a chance to in the second half, we win by 3 TD+. I think people have to realize that the last 3+ years we have not even sniffed being able to beat a top 15 team in the second half. Defensive effort was also great giving up only 7 in the second half while severely gassed. CJH is the guy.

-we looked tight and discombobulated in the first half.
-We looked calm and ready in the 2nd.
Hooker was the difference in both.
-On the fit pitching series Hooker was in straight panic mode. Not looking down field and lost.
-on the 4th down play he found his calm and threw a strike while being hit. It’s a shame that moment was stolen from him. To me it looked a lot like Crompton figuring it out in the 4th quarter the game before he went on the run of great qb play.

it’s not lost on me the people who get upset when you talk about Hookers development as an insult then dog trash Milton.

-Milton came in and actually threw a decent touch pass that hit a receiver in the hands for a wound be winning score.
-then he inexplicably doesn’t throw the ball on the last play. You can see him look to the clock as he runs out of bounds. The knock on Milton has been situational awareness. That appears to still be the problem. He had to know it was only 3 seconds when he took the snap but he didn’t play that play as if he was aware of it.

Overall it appears that CJH is our guy to bring us back to relevance.
It’d be nice to have a few more bodies though
Spot on… especially the need for more bodies. On one series the Oline had two false starts and then gave up a sack on 3rd down with Ole Miss only rushing 3.
Small is a pretty good back, but it appears Evans is much better.
Our LBs were slapped around like school children

And we were still there in the end

Heupel has this team playing above what they should be (and he isn't hindering them from winning). That's really all you can ask for from a team.
If a team is outplaying what they are expected to "on paper" then that means you're getting better.
Ole Miss is a better team and I think most people expected it to get out of hand when the O was 3 n out and the D constantly on the field. Yet somehow they were 1 20 yard completion from victory.

What the tee totaled hell you talking about the right defensive staff? Their QB GASHED US OVER AND AND OVER THE ENTIRE GAME USING THE SAME FREAKIN' DRAW PLAY. WE NEVER ADJUSTED OR WERE EFFECTIVE DEFENDING IT IF WE DID. Corral got over 200 yards rushing or close to it, I quit keeping up with it when he had a 185.

We committed to not letting them beat us over the top and it worked because we held them to their second lowest point total on the season and kept it within one score for the offense. They were re-directing our blitzes all night to give corral running lanes and our LBs were too slow to spy him. If you spy with Theo Jackson or another faster DB they catch you in one on one and throw it past you.

You have to pick your poison against this offense if you don’t have a defensive line that can get pressure and contain with 4 guys.

Overall, we did not play very well last night, especially in the 1st half, yet we still had a chance to win it at the end. Given where we are roster-wise while playing against top 15 teams, that is really all you can ask right now. I hope we have the same possibility in our next three games.
