Post NSD Two-Deep heading into 2017

We were last year.

Although it happened strangely, no one thought Kamara or Hurd would be here next year. This was not a surprise for Butch.

Can you answer me this? How much depth/returning production are you supposed to have when you have two feature backs leave in one season?

You can construct your own answer, and then, I challenge you to find a team that lost two backs, and meets your criteria for returning production.

Kelly might end up one of the best 3rd string guys in the nation that is returning.

Correct, Kendrick held down LT for 119 until Richmond could play on 120. Did a decent job even though it was not his natural position.

I liked Kendrick. I feel bad for our Oline, from what i understand CBJ scheme makes it difficult for them plus the constant shuffle after an injury. We really need elite lineman.

Kelly is a beast. I have honestly thought for a while now that the OLine didn't try to block to there full ability with Hurd. It's awful strange how once Hurd leaves, Kelly and Kamara are busting out 100 yd games left and right. If I was our OLine I know I wouldn't of tried my hardest to block for Hurd.

Yep, when you see it in writing you realize how pretty we look. The killer part of this all, the real kicker, is we have a whole other lineup behind those listed.

I'm beginning to think Butch had 2017-2018 as his ace up his sleeve the whole time.
What are you talking about?

Nobody, not even Butch, thought Hurd or Kamara would be here next year.

The why we don't have depth at RB is on Butch. Completely.

Find a list of top returning SEC backs next year, then find where we appear on that list. Next, understand running and defense wins this league.

Understand that we have JK, CFA & now TC. PRETTY GOOD AND DEEP.

think trey smith won't redshirt? i know they say he's college ready but it couldn't hurt to get a year to grow. especially with the new strength coach. and you gotta think richmond would improve this year right? Might as well redshirt but be ready to pull if we need it imo

This is exactly why Mahoney needs to go. I dont care who has the ball and is running behind the OLine, they should be blocking and playing with the same intensity and doing this for the team. I'd bench every one of them if they are going to get emotional and let personal feelings determine how they play. Leave that crap off the field and its up to Butch and Mahoney to correct it and prepare the players each week.

Ive heard several former players say that Dobbs has a run/pass option on nearly every play. I think that might hurt them a bit because they never know which one they are doing.

No, Hurd was just never really that good. Tall, that's about it.

So did we eliminate that in the second half of the season? The online looked to play harder for Kelley and Kamara than they did for Hurd?

Kamara and Kelly are just different type runners. We are also playing far worse competition as well. Im sure the online improved as common sense would suggest, but i dont think they made conscious decisions to not block for Hurd. I think they all wanted to win regardless.

I believe teams learned how to prepare for Hurd. All of those massive hits he inflicted early on, came to an end when teams started shoestring tackling him.
Seems they found a way too use his height and weight against him.
Kelly doesn't go down as easy with the trip tackles. Smaller stature is my guess as to why.

Yeah, Kamara and Kelly are shiftier and quicker off the burst, but Hurd was good. Shame on our coaches for not using him properly as a power I back. Its their prerogative to do so, but to say Hurd was not good is not fair to the guy.

The line didn't have to hold for as long when Kelly or Kamara were running. They were quicker to the line, and either through it, or stopped within two seconds of being handed the ball.

Hurd, was huge, and needed 2 seconds of north-south running after the handoff to pick up steam and bust through. By that time the Oline had collapsed, and someone had already made contact with Hurd in the backfield and either tackled him, or he was dragging them for a 2-yard gain. Hurd is extremely athletic for his size, but his big interior runs more mostly the result of the defensive line whiffing on coverage.
