Roster doesn't look as bad when listed out like that but I'm pretty confident T Smith will not be starting game one over Richmond. Also, I would think Josh Smith would get the nod over Brandon Johnson starting at WR, even though I really like Johnson.

I agree, I think Byrd moves to defense as well. Hopefully Smith's injury this year was the only reason he regressed. I know if I had his girlfriend it would be hard for me to focus on football as well.

That's so weak. There are X number of carries in an offense and it just so happens that we had two studs that left at the same time. You're manufacturing things to complain about.

Edit... Kind of funny, but I just looked it up and realized that Kelly actually led all RBs in rushing last year.

Show me the depth. It is not a difficult task to ask of you.

If you truly had depth you wouldn't be using a 3rd scholarship on a guy with a western Kentucky commit.

But as I suggest, we do not have depth, and that is why that move has to be made.

Everyone in America wanted Akers. Would be dumb not to. If there's 1 thing this staff has proven it's that they have a good eye for bringing in talent at RB. It not always the big name but that 3* that everyone else overlooked. CRG does an excellent job of coaching them up and having the RB's ready to contribute. Not sure what qualifies you to be a RB guru though. And as with the OP, these are all JOO

No a fair shot at Butch. We were loaded at RB last year. Even the best teams find this happens ocassionally. I am guessing our Oline issues hurt in recruiting Akers.

We were last year.


Although it happened strangely, no one thought Kamara or Hurd would be here next year. This was not a surprise for Butch.

We don't have good depth, and if that's you're only argument, as opposed to actually factoring in why, then congrats, you win the thread. But again, we would have 4 RBs come August if 2 hadn't chosen paths completely out of Butch's control. You of all people should know I'm not a Butch apologist, but all the blame on this one doesn't go to Butch.

I would love to see Byrd go to CB where he can be on the field for alot more snaps per game than if he just plays offense. I would like to see some offensive sets that feature him as the wildcat or jet guy.

Looks like a SEC Championship Roster. Experience and talent throughout the board. Just need to stay healthy and Guarantano needs to play up to his potential. If that happens I can see us going 10-2 OR 11-1 and being in Atlanta with a legitimate chance of winning the SEC Championship.

Nobody, not even Butch, thought Hurd or Kamara would be here next year.

Find a list of top returning SEC backs next year, then find where we appear on that list. Next, understand running and defense wins this league.

At same point, yeah but I'm not sure if he's ready as true freshman. I watched USJ play Laussane in the playoffs and he's in need of SEC conditioning. Its a huge jump against playing against small Shelby County private schools to playing against Bama. Its a huge step up in conditioning and competition. Ask Marlon Brown or Drew Richmond.

Btw...Smith was further along than Richmond at this stage when it came to conditioning.

Nobody, not even Butch, thought Hurd or Kamara would be here next year.

The why we don't have depth at RB is on Butch. Completely.

Find a list of top returning SEC backs next year, then find where we appear on that list. Next, understand running and defense wins this league.

But that's the entire point.
We had 2 starting backs leave which is abnormal, whether it was expected or not.
People expected Kamara to leave the year before. If he had, other backs have more minutes (experience)and a scholarship is open.
It would be great if CFA had more carries but the only way that was happening, would have been to tell Kamara to move along or sit a starter for sh##s and grins.
So now we will have a break out back in Kelly, a blue chip in Chandler and a 4* in CFA as our 3-deep. More carries would be great but personally, I'm glad Kamara broke the cycle and was here last season.

We had better top line talent in 2016. We have better depth in 2017.

Depth wins championships in college football.

We'll have championship depth in 2017.

Based on what? We'll have neither top line talent nor championship depth in 2017. We'll have a lot of talented players with potential, only a handful of which have proven to be good to very good SEC players to date.

We'll start a new QB, we'll go into the season with no #1 WR (can Jennings be that? To be determined) and virtually no returning WR production beyond Jennings.

Until further notice our OL is still a porous group no matter who we put out there....we have bodies, but no dominant linemen, at all. TE is average at best with Ethan Wolf and nobody behind him has any experience. I think we're good at running back with Kelly, but there's nothing proven behind him...I think Chandler will be special and that CFA can be solid, but neither is "championship depth" at this point to be sure.

And what of the defense? We lose our two best DEs, one of which was a program all-time great, and our best corner off what was the 95th best defense in the country last year....who are the returners this year who are proven "top line" talent and who, at any position, showed last year that they can be "championship depth"? DKJr is arguably our best returning defensive player and he still has much to prove that he's the player we all thought he could be after his freshman season. We're a mess at corner, have questions at safety, will replace our two outstanding DEs with talented potential guys, yet still very unproven. And until proven otherwise, DT is still a huge question mark.......will Tuttle ever be the same/reach his potential after consecutive season-ending injuries, is KMac healthy and/or still a project despite his initial ranking, can Alexis Johnson play, is Kongbo good enough/bought in to play DT? Only Vickers, a solid, yet pretty average, reliable player, can be counted on at this point imo.

We have a great punter, a great kick returner (assuming he comes back fully healthy) but we're below average at placekicker. And then there's Butch Jones, who tends to put the team behind the 8-ball due to his poor game day management.

I know your schtick is to do the whole grandiose, hyperbolic "we're going undefeated and winning everything this year", but please give it a rest. There is at a one time a lot of hope for the new season but also a ton of holes and questions position to position in 2017...... as things stand today, it's not legitimate to suggest or state that this is a championship team, especially with how we saw things play out in 2016, when one could actually make the case it was at least a Divisional "championship team".

Ty Chandler at second string RB is a neon sign at how poorly Butch has done in regards to building depth. Guess he needs 10 years.

Yeah, that's why Herschel Walker started as a freshman at Georgia, because Dooley did such a poor job recruiting RBs.
