1. We can still turn out okay. We're going to beat Southern Miss, because our guys are more talented all-around and will be playing with a chip the size of the world on their shoulders.

2. We can beat Florida. Urban's breaking in new guys, as are we. Tebow has not had to display actual, full-game QB skills yet.

3. Our problem with the offense was inexperience at the wide receiver position. Our O-line defended Ainge decently (could have run blocked better), and he made all the plays. We have a talented group, they will emerge into fine players. Tonight they ran into a group of DB's from Cal who are as talented and experienced, and who got embarassed last year against us.

4. Our D-line... I know we looked bad there. Couldn't do much of anything. HOWEVER, I firmly believe that is the best offense we will face all year. Their WR, RB and possibly OL groups are better than any in the SEC. It will not get any worse from here; only better. How much better is the question.

Suprising as it sounds, once we get Coker back, I think we have the guns to make a run at the SEC east, and it's because of our offense.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the defense I saw tonight defending that spread option. Tennessee is usually just terrible against any kind of option.

We wont see a better offense? i doubt it.... CAL did not show exception offensive plays... they had regular WR routes but they just outran our players... in SEC u not only gonna be outrun but also outplayed with different offensive styles... i dont think we will have an answer of Meyers spread offense and McF runnin talents!!!

I'll agree with some of what you said. They are a great team, but I don't think they have the best units overall that we will see all year.

Thinking about what Air Force did to UT last year, makes me think the UF game will be ugly.

there's not a game this year that we can mark down as a w.

Give me a break.
No. Jackson and the rest ran circles around our guys, Forsett and Best are excellent (McFadden is good but they are one deep with an otherwise shoddy offense)... And their O-line... Well, hard to tell tonight. But I believe they are 3rd best in the Pac-10 behind USC and Oregon State.

You're delusional.
I didn't say we will, I'm picking Georgia to pull it off. But we're capable of taking it.

McFadden and Felix Jones > Cal's running backs

I think Alabama may have a better WR group
Florida and LSU will be good in that department, too.

As for offensive lines, I'm sure there are several better in the SEC.

Another good point.
Arkansas very well could run all over UT Dline.

Observations from the stands:

Defense looked like they were playing flag football

Kick-off team will be especially exposed with the rule change this year (kick-off from the 30)

there are zero similarities between the kind of option air force ran and what florida will run from time to time.

I honestly have a hard time remembering the last time that Tennessee defended ANY kind of option well.

Well said, Milo.

Additionally, remember that Cal has had last year's defeat on their minds since, well, last year's defeat. It's not like the Pac-10 gave them a lot else to contemplate (take that, Musberger). They've been scheming for us for a long time.

Barring an injury to Ainge (knocking on wood), we'll be okay.

I don't see Meyer's spread offense succeeding early... He had two QB's to switch it up last year. He's got all his eggs in one basket this year. IF we can make them one-dimensional, we can pull it off. Florida's guys are as green as ours.

I'll agree with some of what you said. They are a great team, but I don't think they have the best units overall that we will see all year.
Really? Name one better overall offense that we will see this year. There are teams with great individual talent (Kentucky, Arkansas) in the SEC, or good coaching (Florida, Georgia), but nothing I'm seeing anything as impressive as what Cal has put together.

Thinking about what Air Force did to UT last year, makes me think the UF game will be ugly.
Florida will not be running a 3-back triple option.

there's not a game this year that we can mark down as a w.
Go ahead and jump off the ledge...

And since I see some of you are having a hard time reading posts here and elsewhere...

I do not believe we will win the SEC East. I'm saying the shot is there.

Gimme a break, if motivation was such a big deal why did Florida win 5 in a row on us in the 90s, and why did bama will 11 and 7 in a row on us in the past.

Better teams usually win, and Cal was better. FL, CA, SC, AL and ARK are probably better too.

1. The rest of Arkansas' team = suck
2. Alabama's group is not better than Cal's.
3. Florida will not have a smooth-running offense, at least by the time we face them.
4. LSU has talent, but Les Miles simply sucks.
5. Cal had a senior OL anchored by one of the two or three best OL players in the nation.

OWB; I'd also like to point out that every time we've faced a real option, it's been run by a group of experienced upperclassmen. Not the case with Meyer's squad.

No they won't. They'll be running a spread option with far better athletes. A mack truck QB and several WRs that are as good as Meshawn Jax.
A mack truck QB that has still never run an actual game against a BCS team. Several players as good as Jackson? Uh, no.

I am a PAC-10 hater with the best of them but there offense made me eat crow tonight. Ive not seen a better group on offense in all of college football. and no there is not a better offense in the SEC. Cal had tremendous speed and talent with 4 receivers, 2 good tight ends, 2 great RB's and a O-line good enough to let them all work.

LSU sure didn't impress me none. Auburn must have the worst O-line in the SEC they way Brandon Cox was getting sacked. Alabama has one or two good receivers but nothing impressive. Arkansas can run, thats it. And Florida is young but talented, ive not seen them play so i cant say what they have with any certainty. IMO from what i have seen week 1 we could have the best O in the SEC and i know we will not see a better O again this year.
