Ye Ole Steakhouse if you want to Uber across the bridge. It’s a Knoxville institution.

Stock and Barrel or Soccer Taco if you’re near Market Square

Barley’s if you want a cool spot in the old city with a lot of beer on tap and great pizza.

Man it was 4 of us from west tn that came to 3-4 games a year. We always stayed at the campus days inn. We were early 20’s and thought we were the stuff. Always left on a Thursday after work, stayed n Harriman then rolled into town on Friday and threw down all weekend. Called in Gus’ sandwiches every night late. Such good times. Back when the Campus was damn near $300 a night and was a run down piece!!

Barley’s Pizza. Doesn’t matter what you get they are all good.

About everything on market square is good.

Stop and get some souse and hoop cheese, oh and don't forget the crackers. Then you can say you had some real southern food.

Lots of great places to enjoy a taste of Knoxville downtown, but if you want some good southern cooking homestyle buffet option, I love Austin's Steak & Homestlye Buffet. Its in north Knoxville, so not in downtown, but you can't go wrong with the food.

Lonesome Dove -- Expensive, but a unique Austin-based dining experience like no other in Knoxville. Try the Elk, Bison Ribeye, truffled mac and cheese, and the chili powder chocolate cake. Drink a smoked old fashioned.

JC Holdway -- reopened after renovations. Top-3 without question.

Kefi -- amazing Greek style tapas

Vida -- incredible, eclectic central/south American/Caribbean.

*****All of the above are a tough reservation, so get one now****

Sweet Ps BBQ on Jackson

Nama on Gay for sushi

Oliver Royale in Market square

Emilia for beautiful Italian

Only go to Calhoun's or Ye Olde if you like nostalgia. There are probably 100 better restaurants in town now.

I’ve just always thought it felt like one of those type restaurants even though some people think it’s iconic. To me, there are just a lot of better options.
As someone who lives in this world you are way off. 100% of Applebee's protein comes in frozen. I bet Calhouns is 50% or less. And that fancy restaurant you go to is at minimum 25% frozen.

I have reservations at Chesapeake's. Not sure about wait times without.
They are more known for Seafood, but have lots of options.
A bit more upscale than the others mentioned. (White table cloths, but it will be full of game day attire.)
Market Square is a neat venue with numerous options and people watching (aka sitting around judging people as they walk by)
Hands down the best seafood I’ve ever eaten
