Posssible Replacements for Coach Pearl

I'd rather just win tomorrow and worry about that stuff later on.

By far the best post in this thread. UT fans are going to talk themselves in circles when the off season hits. Let's try to enjoy this tourney run as much as possible, there'll be plenty of time to debate this noise in the next week or hopefully 2-3

No, actually it wasn't.

Dear god, I am actually a PEARL FAN, and I can no longer tolerate some of the unadulterated nonsense that gets spouted by Pearl fans.

Unadulterated nonsense??? So you are denying that these programs and their coaching searches did not miss on many of their hires???

Completely and totally irrational.

Here are the 10 phone calls, in order, I would make if I were in Mike Hamilton's chair:
1. Lon Kruger.
2. Mark Turgeon.
3. Brad Brownell.
4. Gregg Marshall.
5. Chris Mooney.
6. Dean Demopoulos.
7. Scott Sutton.
8. Tim Miles.
9. Cliff Warren.
10. Donnie Jones.

gotta satisfy that pesky rooney rule right

Same here. I cannot wait till it is official that he is leaving.

I don't follow basketball nearly to the degree that you do, but perusing wikipedia gives me a pretty good idea as to why you're interested in most of these guys. Love to have them.

The one question mark is Donnie Jones. He doesn't seem to have done much as a head man. Why him?

Also, why is Rick Byrd not on the list? Is it just a function of age, or do you not think he'd be a good coach here? Or perhaps just not as good as the others on the list, which is fair.

If Tennessee decides to let Coach Pearl go, who would be a good replacement that would give UT the best chance to remain a tournament team? I would hate to see UT drop back down to the NIT again.

For me, its not a question about the need for Pearl to go. I accepted that fact months ago. I don't not understand the joy and glee of the "Vol fan" in celebrating the demise of BP.

A lot of the haters are just that HATERS.They know everything and if you dont believe it just ask them.I know one thing that the next coach wont bring as well as Pearl and thats passion. The next coach will be boring and attendence will suffer you mark my word.UT basketball will rise again but like before we will not get the hero hire 32% believe we can.To many basketball schools will take the cream of the crop and we will be left sucking hind tit.Book it..............

popcorn sales will be the least of their worries

Love how some of you pearl fans are acting like this is something that "happened to" Pearl. It isnt a question of whether we get a better coach or not, but we have to get rid of Pearl because of the lie and cover up. If the idiot would have just admitted to the minor infractions, we wouldnt be in this situation and niether would Pearl.

I can understand why some think this way. What I cant understand is how so many people think we can hire a better coach.

I said this yesterday but I really like Frank Martin at Kansas St. but I doubt he would leave unless we unload the bank.
I Also like Chris Collins at Duke the young Associate Head Coach and would be a nice fit he here and he has learned under Coach K.

dawkins and others not exactly lighting it up.

So you have no idea who the next guy is but you think he'll be boring and will fail . . . And you are railing against haters. Nice.

All of those guys would keep things moving forward.

Yes.
Just to clarify, am I right to assume you've listed coaches who you think would be likely to take the job or at least consider it? Just wondering because you left out guys like Anderson.

He's already cheerfully admitted he's a huge hypocrite. So, I'm not too surprised by that.

Those of us that are pleased are happy that the university is making a statement that character and integrity is more important to the university than trying to support an employee who has none of either and represents the university in a high profile position.

cliff warren is a damn good coach.

if you post a winning record at ju, you are doing something.

i would be partial to donnie jones for obvious reasons.

Hat, I am an avid supporter of Marshall. But one name on your list that is intriguing is Sutton. Does he differ from daddy and brother when it comes to off-court stuff?

Why do I not get excited when I think of Lon Kruger as coach here? I don't know why, but I just don't think that'd be a good hire.

Has no option at ORU.
