Posssible Replacements for Coach Pearl

Hat, if UT were to hire Marshall - then do you think he could recruit well enough to win at this level?

No one on that list would even consider leaving their current job for TN except POSSIBLY Buzz Williams.

Kentucky never came after Ford because Kentucky doesn't hire up and coming coaches. Gillispie is the closest they ever did to that. Even Gillispie had proven himself at A&M, which is about the same caliber as ours (TN).

We will not be hiring a big name. We MIGHT convince and SOLID up and comer to come to TN. It won't be easy.

My list and the order I would call -

1. Tom Crean (the worst he can do is say no)
2. Mike Anderson (unless it becomes a arms race with Ark and Mizzou)
3a. Tony Barbee (he's apparently unhappy at Auburn)
3b. Mark Turgeon (native texan, may be happy where he is)
4. Gregg Marshall (well documented)
5. Cuonzo Martin (coach on rise)

Tiger, why do you like Crean so much? He's done nothing so far at IU. Granted, he had some good seasons in the Big East at Marquette.

I don't think people really understand what he took over at IU and how pathetic it was.

His teams play solid ball, are well-coached, and play hard. I just like his style. I just think he could do very well at Tennessee. It's purely a personal opinion.

Seriously, you don't leave Indiana to come to Tennessee to coach basketball. You may get fired and leave Indiana to come to Tennessee...it just doesn't happen. Indiana while down for several seasons, is still one of the top programs. It's in rebuild mode. Crean wouldn't even listen.

The situation here may be pretty bad, too.

Like I said, the worst he can do is say no thanks.

Either way, the change has to be made, and one will be made. Well I am just interested to see the names that will be thrown out here. Thats all and whoever it it is unlike with Coach dooley then it might be a nice change if the majority get on board that is all I was trying to say

I might be off on this, but money being equal, why would someone want to leave St. Johns for Tennessee? Exactly how high does the coaching community hold the Tennessee job?

We can pay the money and its easier to win the SEC than the Big East........

Byrd has not coached at the major level and has never recruited as a head coach at this level. We do not need another insider coaching a Tennessee team.

Byrd is as much an "insider" to Tennessee basketball as Kevin Stallings is.

This has been confirmed through numerous sources, including juco and D1
coaches, along with media personnel. Pelphrey along with Tennessee's Bruce Pearl
are "Dead Men Walking".

The infor came from the same source; one for one so far.

So expect this right after the Vols lose { a few days}

Thx for posting. LWS posting something similiar yesterday. Not a huge shock. Despite my feelings, I am saddened by the way this thing will apparently end. Never imagined it. I do think it is right move though, and yes I recall the Houston days. Sad it came to this

Not happening. If he was leaving so soon after getting the job he would've gone to Clemson last year.

I find it funny that your are so positive about what Shaka Smart is going to do. He's going to watch HOURS of film on his next potential team before making a decision to jump ship. I tend to trust his judgment more than yours.
