I was just watching an old interview on CSS with CLK from YouTube back in December and caught something interesting. Around the 2:05 mark CLK says this regarding the QB situation:

"We've also had some people contact us about some major college kids that are at programs right now that would be interested in transferring..."

Anyone know who these "major college kids" might be?

See for yourself:

No info on your question (unless it was that kid from Miami-Robert something), but I just wanted to say your user name cracks me up.

it probably was robert marve. the timing of that interview and marve announcing his intent to transfer are pretty close...

I heard Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford met with Kiffin last night to discuss transferring. Kiffin thanked them for their interest, but informed them they don't fit into his system.

only names I have heard are Robert Marve, which won't happen, and Mike Glennon, but I haven't heard anything more about Glennon since December so there may not be interest there either. He would likely have to sit out a year even if he did transfer.

That's not the orphan boy who once schooled Rod Wilks on how to play football and who was raised by the Mannings, is it?

He was raised by a wild pack of Bluetick coonhounds, and learned quarterbacking at the hands of heath shuler.

What good would a transfer do for us next season if they have to sit out a year? Why are people geting all worked up about transfers... esp. one of Marve's level/ability that probably will be battling guys in 2010?

Am I missing something?

I saw a segment on ESPN today where Marve's dad said it was very likely Marve would transfer to Florida as a walk-on

Dead thread. This staff has bought into working with what they have for '09...recruiting a couple or three QB's in '10...and then going from there.

I'm guessing that CLK and the "O" staff looked at Stephens and Coleman and decided that they could turn one or both of them into good players for the next two seasons. Think "Brees". Otherwise, they hang on to Boyd, as (at least) a "stop-gap QB".

We'll see.

Go Vols.

That's my guess too.

Does anyone know how much they are/were allowed to do in terms of testing these QB's outside spring drills? Or, did they have to do that assessment with film only?

No idea, and my post was based solely on the observation that CLK (and staff) apparently decided not to go after a QB in this class.

There are only two reasons they would do that: (1) They think they have no chance at a QB they would want, or (2) They think they can "rehab" a QB on the current roster.

Once again, we'll see.

Go Vols.

Is this a reference to Volnation's favorite QB Jon Crompton? How dare you take a swipe at the best practice QB to grace Neyland in recorded history. All he needs is for UT to change colors to GREEN and white. Yeah, that's the ticket. The kid's just colorblind. He WANTS to throw to the color green. Grass is green. It all makes sense now...
