Getting tacked easy (RBs), getting pushed around (OL) and not getting off blocks (DL) are all points that have been made by Vol Nation and all issues that can all be associated with the strength of our players.

S&C was a huge concern of mine going into this season. We promoted a guy who basically had zero Power 5 S&C experience. To me that was a risky decision at best when you consider we had front row tickets to what happens when we fail to replace an experienced S&C coach with an experienced S&C coach.

I hate to give Will Friend an out, because in my opinion each position coach should also know the best S&C routines for their position group, but I cannot help but wonder and worry if there is something to this.

I had the same concerns, but got pounded by several on here for not trusting JP to know what to do.

Time will tell. At least JP isn’t just winging S&C like Lyle did. Hopefully last week was just an anomaly.

Two 4th and 1 stops by the Dline against the no. 3 team in the country left me hopeful about team strength. Online seemed to be outnumbered as much as overpowered, and the ugliest sacks were due to speed, footwork, or choosing the wrong guy to block.

When you get embarrassed, everything is suspect but not sure SC Is the biggest concern.

I saw many more issues with technique, snap count issues, and missed assignments than being manhandled....

We've seen the results of poor S&C in the injury reports in the past and we havent seen that yet this year

Covid would likely have more to do with a dropoff in S&C than the new S&C coach. People seem to keep forgetting that all of our lives have been severely disrupted over the past 7 months and the football players are no exception. But I don't think the S&C program is the problem ... we manhandled Mizzou up front in the same way Georgia manhandled us.

Remember when we had all those Volnation "doctors" that swore up and down that Butch's S&C program did not lead to any injuries. Crazy how those "doctors" were the same posters that sniffed Butch's jock until the day he was fired...

Good stuff. I hope you are right. I want anyone who is hired to succeed as much for them as anyone else, but when I started reading these discrepancies, I could not help but fall back on past concerns!

Good stuff. Seems sound. I hope you are right, because the rest is fixable.

Have you forgotten that everyone's S&C programs were shut down for months. The kids had to do it on their own at home. Either they trained while locked down or didn't. The S&C program will be fine now that they are back on campus and have the proper tools to work with.

The UGA game was not due to strength and conditioning. I'm not worried about that at all. UGA D is just that good.

No, I haven’t. If they aren’t in as bad of shape as we are and both experienced the same setbacks... then you would think that means our S&C is worse? Hard to say really. But I get your point that it isn’t like our S&C coach could really show what he can do under those circumstances.

Any defense is going to be worn out and weak if they are on the field the entire game especially against a team like Ga.
Right. I agree. I am referring to our OL and our RBs. To me, it looked like they got mauled but apparently it was more of an assignment issue.

The other teams rb’s are also bullying their way forward 3 to 5 yards after contact. #95 was one of the victims of this on many plays.

This. I didn't see strength issues, more of technique. Our strength looks pretty good overall, but blocking at the rb/te level is horrendous. DL looks strong too, we have a really solid run D.

Tackling was good until the uga game, but tackling is a lot of technique too.

Fwiw our DL ranking vs power runs is #9, so is our opportunity rate (giving up less than 4 yards on a carry). #23 in total line yards. These show we have quite a bit of strength and a good dl overall.

Chandler's always gone down after first contact. He could be playing flag football and go down after the flag's pulled.
