Possible bad news incoming?

I thought third was dismissal??

I decided to look it up. The link attached is the UT Student Athlete Handbook. Page 55 starts with positive tests and the levels.

It isn't a black and white rule as the AD (and I assume, head coach) has some discretion. I always thought at least the first positive test (of marijuana) just required counseling, and that is correct. It does look like a suspension occurs after the second positive test, but it's determined by the AD. The fourth positive tests results in permanent suspension.

I seem to remember from my kids' orientation that a student could be asked to leave the school after the first offense for alcohol. Do student athletes get more strikes?

Butchna calls them the "new pumpers". Lol. Still cracks me up.

I think when/if Butch gets fired, I'm gonna be a negavol, no matter who it is.

"He sucks, can't stand him, anyone could win with this team, he'll never win a championship here, he's in over his head. But I hope Im wrong."

That's the spirit.

Maybe its changed but my understanding (grew up with an assistant strength coach from the Majors era) was back in the day it was part the GA's job to give guys a heads up when they were going to have to pee in the bottle. If you sweat as much as these guys you're clean in 3 days so unless these "randoms" are a total surprise you have to be pretty much an idiot to fail one.

Even if legal most (probably all) coaching would prohibit their players from smoking. Cigarettes are legal but I'm betting you'd become pretty acquainted with the stadium steps if CBJ caught you busting a Marlboro.

Problem solved as you don't have to smoke it to consume it ... much better for you now even more vs ethanol

Here is the SEC in a nutshell. A little dated but no one has changed their policy to my knowledge.

you dont get suspended for a first failed test do you?

I'm not sure but I don't think so. May be different at other schools plus there may be over 1,000's of ways to get around testing positive. Sure as heck a lot of NFL players being suspended for failing urine screens IMO. Worst thing about it is that it appears to show that team unity, chemistry, takes a backseat to one's vices. That and the chance at losing a free education likely valued at over 100K. Simple bad judgement is what it boils down to. We repeatedly read of players that just "throw it all away." I think our coach does a good job of getting problem-free players on this team. Also the NFL appears to do a good job of vetting/screening potential draft picks to avoid future problems.

Two positive pot tests is all it takes to get a suspension. They "may" be suspended after one, but "will" be suspended after two.

That obviously isn't followed. Mathieu wasn't suspended at all, just kicked off the team, presumably for 4 failed drug tests. According to their own very lax policy, he should have been suspended for a game, then one year, before being kicked off the team. I bet Mathieu failed every drug test he took for the time he was there.

Some podcast called "Reed Ranch" says 3 players (Kmac, Drew Richmond, and an unnamed player) will be suspended for positive drug tests

There has been no solid sourcing, all rumors seem to be stemming from this.

Honestly, until these rumors are validated. I vote to delete this thread. OP cannot show his work or evidence for these rumors so this thread is just unwanted attention for something that is not factual to this point.

Jimmy also just referenced the rumor about suspensions and he specifically mentioned Kirkland McKenzie and Richmond. He said he contacted somebody at UT and they said not only is it the first time that theyve heard of it but they don't make comments on silly message board rumors

Hyams just said Kirkland is the third rumored
He asked UT sports info and they said they don't comment on internet rumors
That was it on the subject
FYI. The word "silly" was not used. My ears did not hear a denial of the story only a no comment
