The Big 12's current preference in expansion discussions is adding four members, sources tell The Athletic ; BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston are considered the leading contenders. Still a lot of work to be done.

I would reach out to Memphis as well. Maybe San Diego State. Good new markets, decent programs, for the Big 12

Can anyone make a remotely decent argument that UCF, Cincy, and Houston would be better off in the neutered Big XII than they would in the AAC?

Only thing would be playoff potential. Not sure if the big 12 keeps its seat at that table.

There's no way. I get the impression that the Big 10, Pac 12, and ACC are reversing course on playoff expansion. I think we're headed to a world where the 4 team playoff is made up solely of those conference champs every year.

Potential TV revenue? I'm not sure it'll be THAT much better in a few years but I can't see anything else.

I think they should bring Nebraska back myself. No doubt about it, 12 wants to expand. They seem to be targeting American conference teams tho. Memphis might work.

Feel bad for the also ran from Pac 12. I think they were dumb not to take a team or two from the Big 12.

But I agree, the Big 12 needs a blue blood. And they just dont have one anymore. And I dont see where they get one. Only one slightly available is Notre Dame, and that doesnt make any sense on so many levels.

Notre Dame isn't even available for the next dozen years or so, unless they want to pay a massive buyout to the ACC in order to land somewhere else. And if they were to do so, surely that somewhere else isn't whatever is left of the Big XII.

If the 10 says "you have to meet expectations or we will find someone who can", that's that. Nebraska might feel like they had a lot better success in the 12. They might feel it more advantageous to be a player in the 12, then a bottom feeder in the 10.

as for UCF, that is probably more of a "they fit for us" thing from the 12. They like the high offense and exposure. It gives them an in with Florida, and it never hurts to ask. UCF can easily say "not at this time".... or they could decide the acc is vulnerable to other conferences, and it's "safer" to join an expanding conference.

The 12 is opportunity for teams to take advantage of if they can get enough players. If not, they are cooked.

If I'm UCF i got one question, and it's a simple one.

Do I think Florida St. can be pulled by the SEC? If so, I'm entertaining the idea at least.

On that note... it's the question absolutely EVERYONE is asking, Even the 10.

That’s a terrible world . What a joke those 3 Conference commissioners are if they try to pull that crap.

What does FSU to the SEC (which isn't going to happen) have to do with UCF going to the Big XII? How are those two situations even remotely related?

Why is that? The playoff doesn't need to expand.
Because I don’t believe in automatic qualifiers. I think it would be a joke for Bama to get the 1 seed to play the 4 seed UCLA Bruins who just happen to be ranked #14. I think it would be terrible for the sport. Why should anyone want that?

It completely removes the need for a committee and turns the conference title games into a national quarterfinal.

Maybe, but you didn’t refute my point. #23 Utah vs 16 Oregon State shouldn’t be a Quarterfinal.
Unranked Northwestern upsets #4 Penn State bc Penn State’s QB has kidney stone and can’t play and then gets to be slaughtered by Clemson or LSU sucks. No thanks.

I get it. It might produce some bad semifinals. But how is that any different than what we have now?

I get the fact that you’re very happy with the current setup. You should be. I think for the betterment of the game, the best teams should at least be in the CFP. Going back to auto qualifiers feels like we’re going backwards to the College football alliance ways. It feels like the Rose Bowl, once again, is holding everyone hostage because they have to have their cute little parade exactly on January 1. It feels like that this “alliance” with all of their promotion of inclusivity across their like minded universities are not exactly practicing what they preach in terms of college football .

Nebraska is in a no win situation. Can't compete even in the weaker B1G West and there is NO WAY you can go back to the B12 for a lot of reasons. Huskers have the name brand, a HUGE fan base and now at least B1G tv money. Their style of play is perfect for the B1G but the recruiting has died since the switch.

Yeah it died. It's graveyard dead. And now some possible coach behavior to address as well. Including Frost himself.
