"[edit] Los Angeles Raiders
As coach of the Raiders (at the time located in Los Angeles), Shell compiled a record of 54 wins, 38 losses, and was named AFC Coach of the Year in 1990, when the Raiders won the AFC West division with a 12-4 record, and advanced to the AFC championship game in the playoffs. Al Davis, owner of the Raiders, fired Shell after a 9-7 season in 1994, a move Davis later said he regretted."
I did miss on Shanahan. But I think I supported my point about other coaches having success despite Al Davis.
So, just for to be clear, if Brian Kelly was the coach of the Oakland Raiders he would have done better than 5-15? With the same players and same lack of control (thanks to the insane owner) Kelly would have done better in Oakland?
If you classify Ole Miss as a 3rd tier school, you evidently have never been there or know peanuts about what you are talking about. Throw out with W's and L's, and they have what all other schools drool about.Have any of you read the book Meat Market? It tells about Coach O's recruiting season while at Ole Miss. He recruited all of the players that beat Florida this year and he convinced Jevan Sneed to transfer from Texas. Not too shabby for a third tier sec school.
If Orgeron comes to UT, we will be on probation in little or no time. He got away with his recruiting tactics at Southern Cal and Ole Miss, but now he is visible. Do you think competing schools in the SEC are going to sit around and watch him sign up all the good players by using non-kosher techniques? No, they won't, and soon the NCAA will be having a field day in Knoxville. In the mean time, our football program will continue to tumble to new lows every year.:shaking2:
