I know we are kinda cheap when it comes to dishing out the cash to assistants, but:

OC- Clawson
QB- Loeffler
OL-Adkins
TE/Recruting Cord./Asst. coach Title-Debord
WR- Young AA coach that can recruit- guesses

Unless we get another defensive coach like some rumors, put WR under one of the other coaches.

Any chances?

it's a pipe dream some of us have around here.

i'd still like to land Loeffler if nothing else.

If Clawson would take WRs, DeBord would take that title, and Hamilton would give the money, it could work. I doubt any of that would happen, though.

You are leaving Drayton out as RB Coach. That would be to many coaches.

you can't put WR under any of those. Whoever coaches the WR's needs to only coach the WR's. No one on the offense side of the ball needs more than one offense position. You need at least 5 coaches on the offense side of ball and at least 3 actually 4 coaches for defense.

I don't think Debord is gonna settle for a position coach.

OC-Clawson
QBs-Loeffler
RBs-Drayton
WRs-Clawson's WR coach
OL/TEs-Adkins/CPF

This is what I've heard too-- one hell of a lineup. Much more than I expected-- just in time for our big recruiting weekend too. CPF pulls it off in the clutch :)

Not really. Latrell Scott is his name. He sounds like an energetic, youthful type that could probably handle his own recruiting.

If we can pull Loeffler and Clawson, I would be elated. I wanted that more than DeBord, I just didn't think we could pull Loeffler without DeBord. I think Mallett is more apt to follow Loeffler than DeBord, though we wouldn't be a lock without both of them.

Since you seem to always be on top of recruiting, HV: How good is Mallett? Is he really the player/transfer that he's touted to be?

I think he is a future 1st rounder. I know he didn't prove a whole lot this year, but he was a true freshman. Now, it depends on where he lands, but I think he has the potential to be special.

Here is some info on Latrell Scott. It comes from a Vol fan on another board that is close to the Richmond situation:

Latrell is a solid, up and coming coach.

He grew up in Richmond and graduated from Hampton in 1999. He had a very good career as a player at Hampton. He was a 3 year starter at TE and a 1-AA All-American his senior year.

He is still really young at 30 and Clawson is very high on him. At Richmond he was hired as the assistant head coach, wr coach, and recruiting coordinator. he has really turned the recruiting program around with Clawson. The talent they have brought in has been a huge upgrade over the previous coaching staff. The HS coaches accross the state seems to really like him.

I have had amny conversations with him and can say he is a really nice young man. He is very bright, articulate, and very personable.

Positives:
He is young.
He is African American.
He can relate to today's college players better than most (heck he looks like one).
He has had good success with young WRs in limited time at Richmond (FR Kevin Grayson had 68 recs for 970 yds & 7 TDs and was CAA Rookie of the Year this season).
He has a very good rep in the mid-atlantic and can recruit the Tidewater area for UT right away.
As recruiting coordintator at UR he knows the job and has the HS contacts, he may not have recruit the same players at UR but he works with the same HS's and coaches.

Negatives:
He is unknown nationally right now so he will have to develop as a recruiter at least outside of the mid-atlantic / Virginia areas.
He is still relatively inexperienced as a coach, he is only ~30 years old.
He has no 1-A experience.

Overall, I think he would be a very good hire for UT. Of course I am biased but Clawson thinks very highly of him. He was pursed by several 1-A coaches but Clawson was able to keep him at Richmond by promoting him to assistant head coach and convince him hat it was in his best interest to stick with him. From what I can tell he is pretty darn loyal to Clawson.

Makes sense, he's already got Drayton at RBC, so I say bring him and lets get this show on the recruiting road.

We aren't going after another defensive coach. That was only if we were gonna get Steele.

Clawson can coach QBs, but, if we don't land Loeffler, then we have to find another coach. That would likely be a TEs coach. I really want Loeffler, though.

What happened to the idea of getting a second DB coach to help out Slade?

Ummm, I don't remember that ever being a possibility. If anything, we would have brought in either another DC or a LB coach. No reason to have 2 people coaching one position and Chief having to hold down DC and LBs. Steele was the main reason for the whole rumor of having 5 defensive coaches and 4 offensive coaches.
