wow. i dont understand why everyone thinks that coaches from smaller conferences cant win in the bigger conferences. coaches are basically motivators, teachers, a playbook and the face of a program. its all mental and charisma. how many coaches start their careers in the SEC? everyones gotta start somewhere

This is where I fall now. I thought Urban wouldn't stand a chance at UF when he got hired. He'd never been at that level and had never been in the South and we know how that turned out. If you can coach you can coach.

Let's be honest. Probably 90% of us weren't thrilled with the hire, with most having their Grudenasms or Strongections.

Butch was down on the list, and most of us said, "He lost to Dooley." Some of us were wise to wait before we stuck our foot in our mouths though. :hi:

I have a feeling we lucked our way into a great coach and got the man
we NEED,not the one we wanted at the time...

I was a Grudenite and i was not happy, because... (wait for it) He lost to Dooley.

I love this coach now..

We needed not only someone who can win and build our future with top recruits but also someone who LOVES our university the way Fulmer and Majors did. When I saw emotional Butch on that Vol Walk, I knew that we got what we needed.

For the record, I never disliked C.B. Jones, I was just unaware. The lack of awareness scared me more than anything. Once I learned about this guy, I began to see why he was offered the job.

Through many painful and egotistical mistakes, I've learned that what I want is rarely ever what I truly need.

I suspect this is the same for the general population... due to American culturalism, consumerism, and social conditioning.

Thankfully, it seems Hart got lucky, or knew better, when he hired Jones.

A lot of people had to be force-fed this hire, but many are now realizing they were being force-fed a delicious ice-cream sundae! I hope it has a cherry on top!

Pretty sure there is a song out there about "Thanking God for Unanswered Prayers" ....we were praying for Gruden and got Butch....the man for the job IMO wasn't happy then but am now!
Sometimes s#*t just takes care of itself.

Just sayin.
