-Herman Lathers looked much better and you can see the potential when he is decisive and not out there thinking instead of playing...He will be a great one when he leaves and a bright future at LB with him and King

- Poole in limited carries looked to have good vision and speed to hang against one of the best D's in the nation...we are in good hands with Poole, Brown, OKU, Williams

-Douglas held his own for most of the game against a guy that is compared to Dwight Freeney by scouts/coaches

- Moore despite his drop looked like he picked up a few pointers from Kippy Brown with some solid route running to mix with his speed..he had alot of separation at times by fooling DBs

I have to agree on Lathers. He was a lot better last night than he's been all season.

The only positive from this game is that the team bus can get the team to Atlanta. No team goal ever came to fruition after that.

If Moore catches the two TDs he should have had, we are probably going for a 2 point conversion to make it a one possession game, 29-37. Then we'd kick it offsides for an opportunity to win with I think a little over a minute remaining. It's unlikely we'd have won it, but it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of you guys were on here excited about how closely we played a top 10 team.

You people need to stop slobbering all over yourselves re: Lathers. There's a reason he was #4 on the depth chart. He can't tackle.

Lathers is like Chris Donald in one way: they both have above average straight line speed. Donald has his own troubles, so the comparison ends there. Lathers is very late making his calls, which I won't criticize too much because he is a freshman.

Because of his speed, he looks great filling a gap, and getting upfield to make a tackle in the backfield. However, he is a horrible tackler. In the Tampa 2, most of the time the MLB has deep middle responsiblity on the pass. His drops are late, and indecisive. He is not physical at all. He simply does not control the field like a good linebacker does, because of his poor tackling, poor instincts, and poor lateral footwork.

And? He tackled very well last night. I'm hoping it's a trend. No one was anywhere close to "slobbering" over him.

The play of Gerald Jones, though mixed, seemed to be the main thing that kept us in it in the 2nd quarter.

We have a lot of great young talent on defense. They played very well at times and at others were inconsistent. Another full off-season and we should be very solid across the entire defense. Our DL should be a tremendous strength next year and beyond. Just ask the NY Giants how dangerous that can be.

On offense, we are completely set for playmakers. Jones and Moore should improve under Kippy and be real threats. Stocker is a amazing. Poole, Brown, Williams and Oku are going to be beastly. Mix in guys like Kenbrell Thompkins, Matt Milton and Markeith Ambles and we will have a host of guys that can score in different ways.

Everything hinges on the OL and QB positions. We need to recruit a couple of guys for the OL who can play immediately in the 2 deep, if not start. JaWuan James looks to be one of those guys and Zach Fulton is underrated but has gained a ton of muscle weight in the last few months. Hopefully, we bring in Cullen, Green plus one of the many we are in on.

We are quickly going to see how great this staff is. I have no doubt that the defense will be coached up and very good next year, especially with added depth and guys like Reveiz and Frazier coming back. The offensive line and QB positions will probably come along slower but having a lot of playmakers should ease that burden.

I think we have a similar record next year as this year, which should be looked at as a success. We are losing a lot of guys and should have little to no dropoff even playing lots of underclassmen. We probably won't pass block as well but I really think we will run block much better next year.

If if's and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a merry Christmas.

The Tennessee Program hit rock bottom last year and is still there.
Phillip Fulmer should be asked to give back the money he was paid since 2005. He obviously didn't earn it.

The guys *****ing about Kiffin laying an egg need to rethink how the game played out. Some recruit Fulmer brought in so he could get Louisiana Tech's current running back dropped two passes that would have changed the game.

Positives from this game. The worst senior Class in a long time is gone. Also Eric Berry did not get injured and hurt his draft stock he has earned.

Lathers play was an improvement, from what he displayed earlier in the season. He is still learnin, and as long as he is, and he is getting better, you can't ask for anymore. The same could be sad for a lot of guys that played meaningful mins. this year. He along with many got pushed into having to do something their were not ready for, due to several factors.

Positives:

Spent New Year's Eve watching my Vols.

Witnessed Eric Berry's final game in orange and white.

Watched a great interception by Jenzen Jackson.

Got to sing Rocky Top with thousands of other Vols fans.

Kiss from my husband at midnight (post game kiss is always the best part regardless of whether we won or lost.)

Undoubtedly Lathers best game yet. I thought he tackled pretty well myself, and had made huge strides from what we initially saw from him. Just wondering what we do with him with the other returning MLBs next season? Move him outside or ?

I was absolutely stunned by Lathers last night. I thought for sure he would be the weak link on defense. He stepped up to the plate and held his own (IMO). Very good game indeed.

Well, we are hoping/assuming the other mlbs will become ready for next season; but if they do so, it won't be for a while. Meanwhile someone will have to line up there and get the reps this spring.

Lathers can't tackle? He only got 18 of 'em the last 2 regular games of the season. Not too bad for a freshman.

There may have also been some confusion of Lathers' #34 and NM-T's #37; I saw the latter miss a couple of tackles. But he's only a freshman also and had not been playing all season long like a Greg King had been.

My thoughts:

Askew or King takes the place of McCoy at WLB.
Thompson stays at SLB.
Frazier, Reveiz and Lathers battle for MLB.

Askew stands to have a chance to get in there, possibly in any of three spots. LB and OL are two really interesting position battles that will be taking place in this off-season.

NMT got straight up exploited in VT's first drive in the 2nd Half. They ran right at him the entire time.

Frazier will probably move back to his natural position. He's not accustomed to MLB, and likely would be more comfortable on the outside. He was Rico's back up and will be the starting wlb if he's healthy.

there were No positives on defense yesterday.
I definitely aint drinkin the lathers kool aid.
Lathers made a couple plays running to the sidelines, and then Tech stopped playing and started running directly at us and he was WASHED off the LOS.
