Not a lot of positives from week 1 but here are a few:

(1) Micah Abernathy - now we know why he won the starting job. Kid was everywhere last night making tackles. He also had the game winning pass breakup. I thought he had a whale of a game.

(2) Danny O'Brien and Kendal Vickers - I've been very critical of these two. Called them mediocre talents. Well I take that back. Both balled out last night. Especially O'Brien in taking on double teams. No shame in Kahlil backing him up this year.

3. Aaron Medley - kicking game looks to have improved. 2 big kicks that saved our season.

I'm going to cosign Medley as well. Even though we expected much more from our defense holding App St to 13 points overall when they played lights out was a good outing, I'm not quite ready to cosign any of the defensive players at this point as there were times where they were picking up >5 yards a carry as a matter of routine. Im not cosigning anybody on our D when they disappear like that too frequently.

Not so quick on Medley, friend. His Achilles heel has always been attempts beyond 40 yards. None of his good work last night was from that far out.

I have high hopes for the young man, and think he has great potential, but we haven't seen him excel yet. He had a good game. Let's leave it at that.

Go Vols!

Defending the option is difficult, especially when the defense in on the field as much as they were last night.

Cortez mcdowell showed up big time, no way that dude expected to play no where near as much. He was pretty dominant from what I saw.

Only one....Abernathy. No one else played well. Disagree with you on the two DTs...they were awful all night long, got pushed around for 4 quarters. They gashed us in the run game all night long. What did you see that changed your mind?

Losing JRM was huge and McDowell filled in admirably. Should there be a BOTL for Darrin Kirkland? I don't remember his name called last night.

It was almost as though we went into this game preparing for a west coast offense or something. We failed to set the edge and not a single person on that defensive line kept any containment on the option reverse plays.......that they ran several times. The middle of the line was getting whipped often as well.

Jalen Hurd deserves credit for last night's game. And I'm not talking about diving on the fumble. I have no clue how he rushed for 100+. Those were tough yards, considering what he was getting from his line. I give him props for his effort.

they were gashing us up the middle all night long....either App State is really good, or we are awful in the trenches. Dobb looked hesitant to run or scramble. Someone needs to tell him that he is not a pocket passer. Run first and pass second. While you are playing not to get hurt, you will get hurt.

Aaron 'Money' Medley. Straight down the middle.

Did everything he was asked to accomplish. Can't blame him if they didn't ask him to kick a 58 yarder.

Appy State kicker...........not feeling so good this morning.

Vereen played well. Barnett was a beast. Abernathy. Sutton (after the muffed punt). Preston looked good early (when he was getting a chance).

Well done--a tread on "positives" has to have an impromptu negative post

defense was great you cannot fault them. Shut out second half and were on the field forever in a very physical game.

Good eyes. Told a friend 30 minutes ago I have no idea how he had over a 100 yards.

Kamara has to touch the ball more than 6 times also.
