Kid is very powerful, little undersized but a very confident lefty. We all know Tony V loves his lefties. Definitely think he’s ours if we want him.

So all 3 portal commits are draft risks , I’m curious how this affects our recruiting efforts for other portal pitchers , hopefully a couple of these guys make it to campus , the one guy is an aerospace engineer major, another a grad transfer and a juco

Agreed if he goes in the first round it’s a no brainer for him.

He's currently projected as a 5th round pick. Obviously, the signing bonus can be over slot and more enticing, but he's not really getting any 1st rd buzz that I've seen.

yes, I saw something similar. One had him pegged in the 5th and another in the 6th. It's not automatic he takes that deal.

I just looked him up on MLB. They have him as the number 145 prospect. We'll see how it goes!

Yes, hopefully so, but I'd probably not plan on it.

Slot value for a 5th rounder is roughly $400-500k, but several kids drafted there got bonuses over $1 mil. The Padres paid a kid $1.7 mil taken 151st overall in the 5th rd. That kid had all kinds of leverage as a HS senior. No way Barr would pass up that kind of money to come to school as he would have similar leverage being a draft-eligible freshman.

Trey Snyder, a Tennessee commit, got $1.32 mil in the 5th last year. By comparison, AJ Causey, a 4th yr JR, got $477.5k in the early 5t, which was just under slot value.

Yeah, he's likely put feelers out there suggesting as much.

TRANSFER NEWS: A big-time bat has entered the portal as a graduate transfer.


@HPUBaseball INF Brayden Simpson entered the portal, I'm told. Simpson, 6-1, 190, was 1st Tm All-Big South and hit .389 w/ 22 HR, 77 RBI, 14 SB, 24 doubles and had a 1.250 OPS.
