Portal Hopefuls

They can roast her all they want she has the background to prove she is a better player than half the players that left. Sure we had players better than she is on the team over half were not. We didn't have even one player that can shoot the three as well as she can.
People mad that we are hosting a 40% 3 point shooter because she’s from Liberty. Meanwhile we just watched a whole season of 5 stars who couldn’t shoot 25%

She was also Liberty's leading scorer and thus the focal point of Duke's defense. If she is Kim's leading scorer, it will be Kim's last year.
The definite pattern would try to hook onto some players with good stats that should not cost that much NIL money to get to come here. You save as much as you can for two to four big names as many as you can afford.

Half the players we had last season couldn't throw it in the ocean terrible shooters. Our stats tell you everything you need to know about that last teams offense.

What they are saying is true though based on how "the system" works. The question is whether her production will be the same within the system where she is being subbed out every 2 to 3 minutes even if she is shooting well.

And whether she will even get the ball enough - because in the system first one with a look at the basket shoots, not the best shooter.

I’m almost certain the game that casual fan highlighted against Duke to discredit this visitor shows this player had better or just as good numbers than any of the previous LV ACC transfers that had to face the Blue Devils.
That includes Lazaria Spearman, Ruby Whitehorn, Jewel Spear, Nya Robertson, and Alyssa Latham.
That is why film matters more than statistics.
I’m not even saying this player will be a LV but she’s better than a lot of players at Power 4 schools right now.

Hard to confirm that when you compare Liberty's schedule to the Lady Vols.

Well we were throwing up open threes 37 a game and they were throwing up open threes in their games. We had players at the 25 to 29 percent range. Her range was 43 percent. I guess when it comes to open threes she is better. Since that would be her role on the team that is what we want her to do. As far as defense no player we had could play any so if she can't play any were still even.

I know these aren't women college basketball players but....

Knecht came from Northern Colorado
Chaz Lanier came from Northern Florida
Walter Clayton jr came from Sienna
Mark Sears came Ohio
Johni Broome came from Morehead State
Yaxel Lendeborg come from UAB.
The talent pool for women’s basketball is not near as deep as men’s. There are much fewer JUCOs that have done well over the years in women’s, but maybe this is one of them.

True but suspect the expectation will remain that all 5 players put up threes, not just one. And if the plan is to just give her the ball every time, can guarantee that the other team will make sure she is well guarded.

I just think this system and the way it is ran takes its toll on the shooting percentage because the idea is not to work for a good shot - just take one when you can.

Of course, she may go elsewhere.

Exactly. The players who have came from the ACC to Tennessee numbers were not better against Duke than Avery. Additionally I might add, the supporting cast that all our transfers had around them in the ACC & SEC are significantly better than Avery had at Liberty. So if she can put up better numbers than Jewel Spear, Ruby Whitehorn, Nya Robertson, Alyssa Latham, and Lazaria Spearman it is absolutely crazy for people to claim a 42.7% 3pt shooter is not a Power 4 talent. I saw where her and Jewel Spear both up 13 points against Duke. Avery did it as a sophomore at Liberty. Let that sink in.

I don't think that is the plan think were planning on having three or four three point shooters hopefully that can pass it around until someone gets an open look. The logical thing would be to also have some strong post players and some players that could drive. Even some that could play defense.
Having watched almost every minute of last years team we got open looks all the time from the three the percentage we made was horrid. If we can get any players that can change that even a little it will improve the overall team.
Your right it is to take one when you can and hopefully she will find three or four maybe more players that can make more than the last group when it comes to taking them when they can.
The flaws in her system are letting non three point shooters take shots and the subbing. Just mending those two things would get a lot better efficiency everytime we played.

Oh good, just what we need - the ever lovely Vol twitter, most of whom watch three LV games a year, weighing in to recruits. Just when you think things can’t get worse…
You do realize they are not roasting her, but the program right now is a joke to many.

I would really caution any daughter of mine about this situation. Everyone leaving does not reflect well on the university or the climate of the program, and I would worry that Kim is on the hot seat and my kid would spend time learning a system that no other P4 program plays.

Yes, Tennessee really is in a Catch 22 situation right now. Uncharted waters.

Aside from money, a real danger is that we may have to settle for players who feel they have nothing to lose, lower-division players, disgruntled athletes with talent, etc. The current circumstances paired with the uncertainty about the future of of the staff may scare away many prospects with other options. There may be success, but it's going to take a group that totally buys into the system and the coaches.

Two players have already been announced as visitors this week. The freshman signee who comes from a great family mom made a post that didn’t give a glaring stamp of approval to the portal. Didn’t directly mention Tennessee and this situation but said in many words she doesn’t like how players are being pushed to enter the transfer portal.
I’m glad the two parents of the players visiting and the freshmen signee value their daughters surrounding just as much as you do @brittannica.
