They had a lot of players transfer out when they fired their coach, so they have those spots to fill.

Butch Jones was great at talent acquisition. It takes more than getting the talent. It takes player development. From an offensive standpoint, CJH has shown the ability to develop offensive players beyond their known ceilings. We've got to find a way to match that on Defense. Even a marginal improvement on D will lead to a couple extra wins. Our issue is a mix of talent deficit and depth. We can fix the depth quickly with freshmen and a couple of portal guys. We don't need 10 portal players to move the needle enough to pick up a couple of wins and show defensive progress.

From what I have heard repeatedly is that it is up to the University Administration to make changes that help the timing of Portal acquisitions. Today, Tennessee is in the worse position timing wise because of when students report and school begins. Evidently, whoever wrote the Portal rules knew how to burn some schools and help others. Kinda like SEC and ACC officiating. Want to screw someone? Call those folks. Soooo, CJH and his staff have to ply by rules that screw UT and benefit LSU and others. If a wrong, please chime in and explain why we aren't scoring big on Portal players we definitely could use...DEFENSE!

I may be wrong, bur I thought that our problem with the portal this year was the 10 scholarships we lost because of the NCAA problem which Pruitt and Co. created and got them fired. I understand that that problem is received after the Summer semesters are over. If I am incorrect, I am sure someone will quickly lets us know.

Vols had a lot of star players like Hooker and Tillman return - also depth guys on defense. That is better than most of portal players for sure although there is excitement and buzz over new transfers. They will cherry pick a few in the spring. The PWOs Vols are getting are amazing.
