Call me crazy but I saw/see potential in pops he's big obviously not many bigs wanna bang with him and he showed some impressive post moves including a sweet drop step which caught me off guard

He's the worst player I've ever seen on scholarship. He's like Kenny George except 6'10", not 7'6".

Hopefully Galen Campbell, seems like a great kid who really tore it up in the RTL.
Galen is a junior not a senior like Brandon! That means the scholarship would not be available next year. Let you in on a little secret! I'm sure the effect of this was not lost on Coach T. Butch Jones at the Tri-Cities Caravan made a really big deal of putting the local walk-on, Devaun Swafford of Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett, on scholarship. As a matter of fact, he said I am going to stand up for this announcement. He then proceeded to make the announcement. The fan base went wild when a hard working walk-on was rewarded with a scholarship. Vol fans are appreciative of meaningful gestures and giving a walk-on who has voluntarily "Given his All for Tennessee" with no compensation is certainly one of those.

Of course, but we are talking walk-ons. You don't give a fellow one and then take it away for a new recruit next year. Besides if it happens, it will have to be earned between now and the start of the season. If Rawane is still here after July 2, not likely. It's a shame that somebody tagged him with that nickname.

Actually, giving walk-ons a scholarship and then revoking it the following year in lieu of a recruited player happens all the time. It is a luxury for walk-ons to get a scholly for one year if it happens to be available. That's a gift, not a birthright.

As for Pops, I'd imagine if he didn't care for the name, he'd likely ask to be called Rawane. You can't just assume that it is something he has been sticken with like some plague. He may really really enjoy it.

Well, let's go down this road. Brandon is a point guard in addition to having one full year more than Galen as a walk-on. Galen is a shooting guard. Brandon is much more likely to see significant playing time than Galen with a 10 man rotation. Like I said, Coach T said that every player including all of last year's players were starting at square 1 with him. They all have to earn their minutes. You can also say if he should get a scholarship, he will have earned it. Full stop.

Happens all the time. Happened to me.

If Pops can provide a useful function in clogging the middle and getting rebounds, then by all means keep him. The pace will not always be controlled by the Vols, other teams can slow it down into a half court tempo. Pops provides an option to help deal with it if he will get in better shape.
I think you need a post player for sure. I think with all the athleticism coming but no beef inside maybe difficult. Pops maybe the plug in the middle that's needed. Then you can let Owens, Carmichael, others play on the wing and use the gifts they have. They will be able to Mitch and match various line up combinations. But CDT have to see and evaluate what his team is capable of going forward. I'm super excited to see!!!

I'm pretty sure Pops will be gone. He wasn't with the team at the Donnie Tyndall camp and I've been to one of the voluntary workouts and he wasn't there either.

Don't know if one has anything to do with the other but I heard on the radio yesterday that Pops had a knee injury and was on crutches. That might explain his absence from the camp and workouts.

Could well have happened due to the inability to adapt to the fast paced system. Big bodies are not made to move quickly. All the more reason to use that roster spot. He just does not fit the system. End of story.

Would be nice tho if its a 17-18 point lead slow it down and use him as a anchor to keep the lead

You can't teach height he's what ? 7"0"-"1"
Just reaching out he could alter any guard or even most centers in the conference's shot

He's 6'10"-6'11", he's not over 7'

Kenny George was what, 7'6", how good was he defensively? In Tyndall's system you've got to be mobile, Pops is not. Tyndall has already said he doesn't fit his style of play, and I truly don't know what you saw last year that makes you think Pops can be a difference maker defensively.

Slow it down?! Isn't that what people constantly were complaining about last year in games we got a lead?

We aren't gonna be running and gunning as it is, the uptempo will be more defensively, not offensively.

Here is a little insight into why a big body slow motion center is not good for this system. He has to get out of the way of the drivers. That is a problem. This is a quote from Bill Self, the Kansas coach, explaining the 3 out-2 in high/low motion offense. Coach T says to look for our offense to resemble Kansas'. "True motion is hard to teach. The 3-out 2-in high/low motion is good for shooters, and for post players who aren't great scorers, they are sealers. The biggest negative is that if a really creative player has the ball, there is always a post player who has to get out of his way, so they spend a lot of time working on emptying the post. :hi:
