exactly Rome is just a place, where Peter is believed to have ended up, and just to throw more wood on the fire it is also where Paul ended up too.
The papacy has a history in the Bible, it just wasn't a formal thing, probably because it was illegal to be Christian at the time. It takes a while to get it going and formalized.
as much as you hate on the CC for not being based in the Bible and us not supposed to trust to a group, it also says not to trust individuals as well. and that is what pretty much every other sect of Christianity is. One man shows, who get to pick and choose what they feed the group. I think it is much more trustworthy for one source to tell millions the same thing than to have hundreds of thousands of people saying hundreds of thousands different things to millions of people. at least the Catholic Church has oversight.
seems defensive there at the end I will admit, but I too have enjoyed this conversation. reading the Bible is never a bad thing.
Re: "as much as you hate on the CC for not being based in the Bible"
I certainly don't hate on the CC, not in general nor in this thread -- I was merely responding to certain points being made in the discussion and providing evidence from a different viewpoint (the "red" highlighting/emphasis for the word p o p e is not mine/didn't come from my keyboard, which perhaps is what you're referring to).
