If the popez accepts evolution, how are catholics supposed to reconcile the adam and eve story with any intellectual honesty? If the bible can be that profoundly wrong right out of the gate on something so important - how can any of the rest of it be taken seriously?
No it does not. No person or group can forgive sin. Sin is forgiven only by God with Christ as the mediator.
The Catholic Church is NOT Apostolic.
21 Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyones sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.
I don't think we have changed jack, we have tried to explain it better. The whole divinity to mortal thing is pretty complicated. So instead of having millions of different explanations by millions of individuals they thought it would be a good idea to have a catalog explaining some of these things, so that at least everybody can have the same starting point on top of the Bible.
Speaking of the Bible, there has not been a more redacted, edited, amended, mis-translated text ever. Its almost laughable to call any Bible written in the English language the same thing as what was originally written.
The Caholic Church has a long history of trying to change things and is still doing so today.
Listed are a few of the errors that the Catholic Church teaches that has no Biblical backing.

Yes it is. Every priest can trace their linage back to Jesus.
How do you explain this Bible verse?
.21 Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyones sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.
21. Jesus was sending them out to teach the new way, the grace period.
22. When one receives salvation, one receives the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was not limited to the 12 disciples nor is it limited to priest. It is a free gift from God to all that believe.
23. As Christians we are required to forgive others, not their sins. Jesus was asked how many times per day should one be forgiven. His answer was seven times seventy. Jesus also said if you cannot forgive your brother how can God forgive you.
You have to look at the scripture in context.
Can't you?
What bible verse is this?
I'll get to the forgiving sins.
It's interesting that RCCs ignore what is perhaps one of the most profound events in the NT. The calling of the apostle Paul. Progressive revelation. It was Peter's (Petros) confession that the church would be built upon. Otherwise you are left with an irreconcilable contraction. The ministry of Paul. Paul was the apostle called to build, teach and shape the doctrine of the Gentile church. Not Peter. 1 Corinthians 3:11 "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."
Amazing that in everything Paul unpacks, he never once mentions Peter or the 12 in regards to having any such office.
The apostolic authority given to Peter and the 12 was for Peter and the 12, with the purpose of fulfilling the covenant promises to Israel. Israel rejected and this is evidenced in the scripture with the stoning of Stephen, from which point you have Peter's vision, and then the calling of Paul. From that point you see the clear shift from Peter and the little flock to the ministry of Paul. That's a good reason why the RCC with all its pomp and circumstance looks a lot like the Pharisees marching around Jerusalem.
So, what about the forgiving of sins. Again, examine Paul. In John 20:23 Jesus makes a very brief summary to his disciples, and literally breathes on them. Yet, Paul who expounds thoroughly on justification and forgiveness NEVER once mentions that a believer, or one in an office can forgive sins, etc. Forgiveness in the context of Paul's Gospel (given to him not by men, but directly through Jesus Christ) is that forgiveness is accomplished in the cross work of Christ and justification is received by faith in his work and message.
"I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ." (Gal. 1:12) Hmmm, why didn't Paul receive it from Peter? Why is it that Paul's calling and message is completely distinct and separate from the 12? Coincidence? I think not.
Nor is there any evidence in Paul's teaching of post salvific confession or forgiveness through a hierarchal structure. This is a pharisaical perversion of the grace of God, meant to give men power and control, and keep men in bondage to religion. A false Gospel. Thus Paul said, "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!"
Amazing that Paul never once affirms this view of Peter or the religious practice of the RCC. What we do have is an example of Paul publicly rebuking Peter.
I've read John 20, in context, so please tell me how that equates to the governmental, hierarchical structure of the RCC? Repent (abandon your old thinking to embrace the new) and be set free from religion.
Matthew 18:
1 Then Peter came and said to Him, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?
22 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
Matthew 6:
14 For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
Exactly. That is why the catholic church has Embraced the millions of Illegal Aliens. It's all about the money.
