Interesting stats from last year's first game.

Tennessee

Rushing No Gain Loss Net TD Lg Avg
-------------------------------------------------
M. Hardesty 18 160 0 160 1 43 8.9
Bryce Brown 11 104 0 104 1 34 9.5
Tauren Poole 5 63 1 62 0 34 12.4
David Oku 8 45 3 42 2 16 5.2
N. Richardson 1 8 0 8 0 8 8.0
J. Crompton 1 4 0 4 0 4 4.0
Totals... 44 384 4 380 4 43 8.6

I seem to recall he was about to punch in another TD for the Big Orange as time expired. He is going to be special this year. I hope he avg's 12 yds a carry during this years opener. Poole for heisman!

If he does this all year, he'll be special. Hope he is

I would say 12.4 ypc is pretty special.

He was playing against the scrubs on a d2 team. His carries against VT mean infinitely more than anything he did against WKU.

You know ESPN ranked Poole as one of the top 200 players in the country in '08.

I agree and he was also running behind blocks from our scrubs. Granted our scrubs > than their scrubs but... Here are the VT stats:
Tennessee

Rushing No Gain Loss Net TD Lg Avg
-------------------------------------------------
M. Hardesty 18 47 8 39 1 10 2.2
Tauren Poole 3 15 0 15 0 8 5.0
Denarius Moore 1 8 0 8 0 8 8.0
Quintin Hancock 1 0 1 -1 0 0 -1.0
Gerald Jones 1 0 1 -1 0 0 -1.0
J. Crompton 7 4 59 -55 0 4 -7.9
Totals... 31 74 69 5 1 10 0.2
I would take 5 yds per carry also.

I think Poole can be a great back for us and I believe he is truly thankful for this opportunity, if he can work as hard and give as much effort as Hardesty did he can have a great season and surprise a lot of our opponents defenses

When I went to the O & W game and the WKU game last year, I was impressed with Poole and wondered why he never got more of a shot.

In the medie guide i got in the mail they interviewed all the starters and I bet over 90% of them answered TP, when asked which Vol will surprise people the most.

I feel that Poole didn't get more touches last year due to:
1) Hardesty getting the most plays
2) The political BS of having Kiffin/Brown
JMO

Hardesty was the better back than Poole last year, no doubt about it and deserved most of the carries. Should of BB played in front of Poole? absolutely not.

Not debating that Hardesty wasn't better...he definitely was!

Just stating the reasons I feel that TP didn't get to do more.

I am excited about Poole. He was great during the Orange and White game. When he gets put on his back, he gets up. He wants it. I love this guy. I am high on him.

After rewatching a couple of playbacks of last years Florida and Alabama games, I think it was obvious that Bryce Brown should have been getting touches. He flat out would have been a big timer for the big orange. I think the problem lies in the competition for carries. Hardesty showed he was the number 1 option but, Brown should have been competing against Poole for his carries and the most productive should have won!! So, yes it was Kiffins BS for playing Brown because of recruiting; by showing the big time future recruits that he would play them like Brown exclusively without making them earn it. When it is all said and done and the history book has been written, Kiffin we'll go down as a slease bag coach with a slease bag recruiter; Orgeron! The Big Orange nation will be glad he flew out of town at night and landed where his concept started to begin with and we can all watch as he tries to revive or reinvent himself as one of God's children which you all know he isn't!! Enuf said, GBO!!
