Polls keeping us out of the playoffs

That is not law nor fact. It's much more like an urban legend. It depends on how the rest of the schedule plays out. 10-2 only worked last season because Ole Miss and someone else that I can't Oliver North at the moment lost their way out of the playoff right after we had just lost our way out of the playoff by getting stomped @ Sanford Stadium. That's why we bumped back up into the playoff. The playoff committee is not in anyway beholden to UT with a 10-2 record.
2 losses to Uga and top 5 Bama or Okie should absolutely be enough to make the top 12. Keep working on those likes....

These rankings and the way they do it, is why to move up we must keep the pedal to the metal all game, score as much as possible each game, play for the full 4 qtrs, continue up tempo the whole game, not saying we should not sub, but continue up tempo with same offense, and if Merk can't do this try Mac. No need to redshirt anymore if they are good they will be gone after jr season. Mac appears to be as big as Nico is now, Nico has lost weight since leaving us.

We will not win 11 games.
I think to make the playoffs we have to win out, we are starting too far behind in the rankings, and I know it is a different group of people who do the playoff rankings, but they tend to follow prety close to these other rankings. 10-2 probably won't get it this year. I hope it does, but I doubt it. If they actally went by sos, and Bama and Ga. is our only losses it should be a gimme for us to make it, but who knows. With this all said, we have the abillity to beat Bama at Bama, but we will have to bring our a game for four quarters, and if we get the lead, continue the same offensive scheme that got us the lead, up tempo, don't slow down and give them a chance to get back in the game.

When you are in the SEC, the early polls have little to no impact on you playoff chances. Win 10 games and you will be in.
Maybe, maybe not, like even Clemson, if they were to win out and win their conference, they are in, and they are far from a top 12 team. We may make it at 10-2 but not guarnteed. What would happen if we were 10-2 and make it to sec championship and lose, making us 10-3, would we be in?

Do not allow Arkansas to have even a glimmer of a cjance to make this a close game.Don't let tgem greayhe on defense.Don't let "biker Dan"Petrino to have even one first down in the first half.Game over by halftime.Np let-up the rest of the season. One game-one win.
Games like this are the ones we need to win big, as big of a score as we can get, which we have done pretty good at so far, we did let our game against uab score too much to look as good as we should have.

As much as it pains me to say this, I trust the CFP Committee to get it right more than the AP voters after some of the crap I've read recently

Okay, that's easy to prove.

Let's take last year. The Sunday prior to the first CFP rankings, the AP poll included five undefeated teams. In alphabetical order they were: Army, BYU, Indiana, Miami, and Oregon.

None of these teams had played one another. They had hardly played anyone from each other's conferences. So how to figure out where they stood relative to one another? And relative to all the other teams in the top 25?

That's a complicated question. One would expect some differences of opinion. And some nuance.

Get this: with the exception of Army, the CFP voters put them in exactly the same order as the AP. Not only relative to each other, but also in relation to every other team in the polls:

AP:
#1 Oregon
#4 Miami
#8 Indiana
#9 BYU

CFP:
#1 Oregon
#4 Miami
#8 Indiana
#9 BYU

With the exception of Army, identical. Identical. Look at that numbering. Not close, identical.

Yes, there were exceptions. The CFP put Ohio State and Georgia 2-3 while the AP had them Georgia - Ohio State

But the exceptions were rare. Differences should be common if the CFP were truly starting from scratch, but they were rare.

It is unquestionable. The AP and Coaches polls start the national conversation on which teams are better than which other teams, and drive that conversation for two months. Then the CFP joins in, STARTING FROM THE COMMONALITY OF THAT NATIONAL CONVERSATION.

It's sort of like an athiest thinking he gets his values (don't kill people, don't steal, etc.) out of the ether, rather than from a civilization-wide judeo-christian foundation.

This is intuitively obvious to anyone watching the sport. Come on, admit that you see it.

Go Vols!
Wow, they BOTH had Oregon ahead of Army. No way

.The 14 teams ahead of us cannot win out, and even if they could, they wouldn’t
But if the ones ahead of us finish with exact record of say 10-2 imo they will remain ahead of us with the committee. They go more by w and l and they are already ahead of us. It's entirelypossible for the sec to have 4 or more with 10-2 records.

Beat Arkansas and Bama and we’re in the Top 8 and all this conversation means nothing. The AP poll is a recency biased poll. And it includes people that somewhat know what they’re doing and others that are so far out of touch that they shouldn’t even be considered which factors into and skews a team’s average ranking. One guy didn’t even have Tennessee in the Top 25 until after we beat Mississippi State. We control everything. Just go win. Way too much football left to really care about being Top 10 or Top 15.

We are where we are because we started lower in the polls. We started lower in the polls because many felt Nico > Joey along with who we lost on offense coupled with folks thinking we would struggle on offense. We scored 41 on UGA, Bama scored 24. Obviously, we don't seem to have an issue with scoring points.

The only thing I would question is the two Big 12 teams that are above us. If we were in the Big 12, would we really be the third best team in that conference?
I agree with that. There are 1, maybe 2 teams I truly think we should be ahead of. I try to look from both sides. Although the quality isn’t great, it’s hard to have a no loss team behind us.

But like you said we did start with the disadvantage. We prob should have started in the 12-15 range. Even then im not sure we have a win that should put us much higher than that. Cuse is proving to be terrible. Ga just dropped to bama.

At this point we just gotta win.

imo we should be ahead of Okl, Indiana, LSU, Texas,, Iowa State. That would put us at 10 which is where I think we should be at this point. Then depending on how we do in future games.
Indiana and Iowa St I can agree with. Hard to make cases for the others. Ok defense is much better than ours. But being without their QB we will see how they do.
