Polls keeping us out of the playoffs

Because we haven't really played anyone other than Georgia.

Another reason to hate Bama, but if Georgia would have won this week, we likely would have moved up a couple of spots. Our loss to Georgia doesn't look as good now.

Take care of business in Tuscaloosa and we'll jump 7+ spots, perhaps even past UGA

Meanwhile, tell me Texas & Penn States best win and why they are both ranked in the top 8 still despite the same record as us?

Say what you want, but that was a great road win! And Vols don't move an inch in the polls? Miss St. was undefeated, and had a nice win against Arizona St.. Miss. St. ain't no easy win. Looks like we will have to defeat the darling Alabama and Oklahoma teams to get in to the hunt, or the polls won't move us up. Plus no stupid losses. Go GBO!!!!!
This is an area in which fans have no control. This will fix itself by winning. I do believe the injuries are hurting our defense; however, I think the defense is doing everything it can to help win. The WRs, RBs, and TEs need to reel those balls in. If you can touch the ball, it can be caught. MSU played their hearts out. I would have never believed they could run the ball like that. Those RBs for MSU are studs, and UT beat them anyway......so.....GBO!

Metric is a buzzword organizations use to mask doing things however they see fit behind a screen of "objectivity" and "science".

I spent significant chunks of a full career on various Army staffs establishing and implementing metrics, applying them and interpreting them. They are, for the most part, a fig leaf behind which executors do what they feel is best.

Go Vols!
Not disagreeing with your post however the criteria the CFP uses is published publicly.

A non-issue for me. Too much can happen in the meantime. Irrelevant.

We gave them the run, took away everything else. Lebby said so! Also, all three of their TD drives were very short field or started in or near red zone.

Was it ugly at times, yeah, but we won a game that’s very important to them and moving on. Our better days are in front of us too! As others said, win games and we’ll be fine! So much of season remains to sort out with league!

And btw, the media keeps many fans riled up with fake controversy to drive traffic, same as clickbait, manipulative, to keep you engaged with THEMSELVES, not the team you support!

Do not allow Arkansas to have even a glimmer of a cjance to make this a close game.Don't let tgem greayhe on defense.Don't let "biker Dan"Petrino to have even one first down in the first half.Game over by halftime.Np let-up the rest of the season. One game-one win.

Mississippi State was a good win
I had radio in this morning and to hear the radio guy we lost....talking about all mistakes CJH made ... but not 1 time giving credit for win.
I've not heard anyone say what a great play call for Bishop to score 1st play OT
GO VOLS!!!!!!

Who should we be ahead of?

We are where we are because we started lower in the polls. We started lower in the polls because many felt Nico > Joey along with who we lost on offense coupled with folks thinking we would struggle on offense. We scored 41 on UGA, Bama scored 24. Obviously, we don't seem to have an issue with scoring points.

The only thing I would question is the two Big 12 teams that are above us. If we were in the Big 12, would we really be the third best team in that conference?

Better get used to it. This is how it will be when the B10ers play 2 significant teams every year while the SECers will play 6 to 8 every year. SOS will not make up for an extra loss.

The real poll that matters does not come out until November 4, at 8 pm. The other polls are to promote ”Talking Heads”.

The thing is our secondary does not look good, and we could not stop the run against our to biggest opponents. That is all around bad D#. Until that gets better we have 2 more loses out there. I don't like it but it is what it is. O don't get me started on CJH not coaching to win. It's like he is scared to call winning plays. Hell Kirby wasn't, and they win and we lose because of it. These are facts that I don't like but that doesn't change a thing

Okay, that's easy to prove.

Let's take last year. The Sunday prior to the first CFP rankings, the AP poll included five undefeated teams. In alphabetical order they were: Army, BYU, Indiana, Miami, and Oregon.

None of these teams had played one another. They had hardly played anyone from each other's conferences. So how to figure out where they stood relative to one another? And relative to all the other teams in the top 25?

That's a complicated question. One would expect some differences of opinion. And some nuance.

Get this: with the exception of Army, the CFP voters put them in exactly the same order as the AP. Not only relative to each other, but also in relation to every other team in the polls:

AP:
#1 Oregon
#4 Miami
#8 Indiana
#9 BYU

CFP:
#1 Oregon
#4 Miami
#8 Indiana
#9 BYU

With the exception of Army, identical. Identical. Look at that numbering. Not close, identical.

Yes, there were exceptions. The CFP put Ohio State and Georgia 2-3 while the AP had them Georgia - Ohio State

But the exceptions were rare. Differences should be common if the CFP were truly starting from scratch, but they were rare.

It is unquestionable. The AP and Coaches polls start the national conversation on which teams are better than which other teams, and drive that conversation for two months. Then the CFP joins in, STARTING FROM THE COMMONALITY OF THAT NATIONAL CONVERSATION.

It's sort of like an athiest thinking he gets his values (don't kill people, don't steal, etc.) out of the ether, rather than from a civilization-wide judeo-christian foundation.

This is intuitively obvious to anyone watching the sport. Come on, admit that you see it.

Go Vols!
What an interestingly ridiculous comparison. Imagine thinking the morals of civilization are based on one religion.

10-2 Puts Tennessee in the playoffs. That would mean Vols beat bama or Okie. That's enough. Watch Vandy @ bama this week. We play both, and if bama is celebrating Uga, they could get smacked again.
That is not law nor fact. It's much more like an urban legend. It depends on how the rest of the schedule plays out. 10-2 only worked last season because Ole Miss and someone else that I can't Oliver North at the moment lost their way out of the playoff right after we had just lost our way out of the playoff by getting stomped @ Sanford Stadium. That's why we bumped back up into the playoff. The playoff committee is not in anyway beholden to UT with a 10-2 record.
