Polls keeping us out of the playoffs

Say what you want, but that was a great road win! And Vols don't move an inch in the polls? Miss St. was undefeated, and had a nice win against Arizona St.. Miss. St. ain't no easy win. Looks like we will have to defeat the darling Alabama and Oklahoma teams to get in to the hunt, or the polls won't move us up. Plus no stupid losses. Go GBO!!!!!
The polls doesn't mean nothing right now. Wait until November to start watching those. The CFP poll in November will be the only one that matters

Calm down. Geez. If we take care of business against Bama in Tuscaloosa, we're assured of moving up a few spots. And if Oklahoma comes into Knoxville undefeated or with just a loss and we beat them, we'll move up with that. Mississippi State is a really good team, and we won on the road, but they are unranked. Georgia is the only ranked team we played. And Bama beating them doesn't make our loss at home to them look good right now. But if we win the games we should, and take care of business against Bama and Oklahoma, we'll definitely move up and be in the playoff hunt for sure.

We play Alabama and Oklahoma. Win those games and the rest we are in. Until the defense starts stopping teams we are ranked fairly at the moment. Get our horses back and we will see. D-Line and LBs need to start playing better. MSU ran over us like we were moving at half speed.
You're right. Mississippi State honestly outplayed us, and the refs were also a huge help to them as well. But we still did what we had to do when it counted, and we were damn lucky to come out of Starkville win a win. And I am happy we just got out of there with a W. But anyone could say that it was State that deserved to win over us because, if you exclude the B.S. officiating, State outplayed us and maybe they deserved the win. But we are damn lucky that we were still able to overcome everything and still come back home with the W.

10-2 and we are a lock for the playoffs. 9-3 and we sit home like Bama and Ole Miss last year IMO. It will probably be that way until the playoffs expand to 16. Hope they never go past 16.

The Big10 is so top heavy that 4 or 5 SEC teams SHOULD get in every year honestly...they pad their records vs garbage big10 opponents. It isnt gonna happen though. Most years only 3 SEC schools get in IMO which is BS.

Oregon
Ohio St
Penn St

Are the ONLY big10 schools as good as SEC top 5 or 6....and NONE of them plays more than 2 ranked teams out of their 8 conference games. None. Next year is the same. We will play 5 or 6 ranked teams year in and year out.

Its a damn disgrace. The Big10 should get 3 teams in. The SEC should get 4 or 5 every year. Not gonna happen though

It'll all work itself out. There's zero chance a 10-2 SEC team is left out of the playoffs. So we just need to handle our business and we'll be fine. Plenty of teams ahead of us still have to play each other. We have to beat 2 of Bama, Florida, and OU.

I have to imagine the big ten gets 4 in again this year, possibly 5. I think Oregon and OSU are locks given their schedule, and you could still have 3 10-2 teams with PSU, Michigan, and IU. PSU could end up with 3 losses as they still play IU and OSU. Michigan's schedule is unbelievably easy outside of OSU. If they drop any game outside of that one there's no shot they get it.

SEC honestly might deserve 6 teams this year. Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, A&M, OU, Texas, LSU, Missouri, and of course us all have a legit shot at it. Technically even Vandy has a shot (they play 5 ranked teams still to your point).

Did any of you read the in-game thread? We'll be lucky to win 8 games
according to most of those posters.

It is really hard to read those posts during the game, as most give up on the Vols by middle of 3rd qtr. and
want a massive coaching change in all the assistants.

I'm fine with us not moving up in the polls. Miss State, on paper, is one of the weaker SEC teams, and we narrowly beat them. It's a good road win and I think Miss State may be underestimated a bit, but it's not the same as beating Bama, Oklahoma, or even ... gasp ... Vanderbilt ... right now. We take care of business, we'll be fine.

Mississippi State is a darn good team and should have been ranked. Lebby has done an amazing job. Vols won a very hard road game in OT after blowing the big opportunity vs. Georgia. Special teams needs much work but Tennessee is very much in the playoff hunt with solid improvement in coming weeks. The SEC is insanely competitive this year. Vol schedule remains very favorable for a playoff spot.

I'm not seeing a playoff caliber team. We can be. But our D is very suspect. I feel like the talent on the field is good enough, especially on offense. There just seems to be something wonky. Not sure if it's coaching or team chemistry, but something isn't fully cooked. I think what we have this year is a very fun team to watch who is going to impress a lot of people but just isn't playoff worthy. I hope I'm wrong.

Forget the damn polls. The selection committee don't care about them. You just think they do.

The polls have no impact on the playoffs. If we end up with a playoff worthy resume, we will move up in time
I wouldnt say no impact entirely. The playoffs are deemed by humans that have grew up with the AP which is listed as the Poll for years. So they do look at it and some ppl are followers using all data to make their decisions, so it has impact in varying degrees. If we win out we are in, if we lose to just Bama we probably get in, even if we beat Bama and lose to say Oklahoma our chances go down. With 2 losses Notre Dame is in because of humans and their thought process. If we lose 3 games not a chance.
