Candy is the best football team on Tennessee

Just because they won this year doesn't make them the best team in Tennessee.

If Pruitt puts together the staff that's being talked about, then starting next year I think you can look forward to Tennessee starting another long winning streak against Candy and Kentucky and start one against Missouri and SCjr.

With the coaches that uga hired last year and the ones that Florida and Tennessee have hired this year, I see the SEC east start to reassert itself and Tennessee, Florida and Georgia start to battle it out for the east and that's as it should be.

This is a difficult poll to answer yes/no. We have to take Pruitt in isolation, knowing that he is the ~20th choice. As far as 20th choices go, he's fine. In terms of how the search was handled, it's the low point in UT football history (not counting off-field issues)...and I don't think I'm being hyperbolic there.

My concern with Pruitt is that he's more of the same. This conference already has Smart and Muschamp as Saban disciples plus Saban himself. That's four variations of the same concepts in the same place. The sameness of it bothers me. I do like his results, though.

What I'll say as an Atlanta Falcons fan is that I hope he's our Dan Quinn, a coordinator whose results led to three super Bowl appearances in short order. Pruitt's had similar success on the college level.

You need to add a "to be determined".

I am okay with the hire. Need to understand:

- Who the assistants will be?
- Will he adapt his defense to the players or force his defensive scheme with players that may not be able to play it?
- Will the OC hired align with talents of the players or not?

Lots of unanswered questions.

All I know is he can recruit and had success at Bama.

Freak probably should require a permission letter from the mothers of some of the posters on this board.

I am happy with the hire. Not sure that I am more happy with the hire or just happy to have this coaching search over with!

I live in gatorland FL and work in retail and I haven't heard a gators fan be excited about Mullen yet (and I see a lot of Gators fans daily).

(Not saying they are right or wrong, just what I observe daily at work in the heart of the swamp..)
I'm not convinced that Mullen will be all that either. He has benefitted from two stud QBs in his career. Time will tell.

He is def a good DC can't say he will suck until we give him a couple years. We stood behind Butch and we saw where that got us. Give him a chance support him as only Volnation can, and time will tell

Great DC, great recruiter, but have absolutely no idea how he'll be as a HC. Not saying he can't succeed. But too high of a risk given the state of our program

Sooo glad it’s over but literally dreading all the threads and comments from the “know-it-all’s” telling us how awful this hire was and we’re going to be awful for another 5 years. Please people, give the man a chance. He won’t be perfect and will make some decisions we will question, but give him time to settle in as. H.C. for a few years before you go all VN on him and his family!

GO VOLS!!!

Can't believe this dude was hired over these coaches:

Miles, Leach, Sumlin or Kiffin

Just purely the laughing stock of college football.

I get it, I wanted Kiff or Venables, but we have a solid, defensive minded football coach with a very respectable resume. I'm with him and the Vols, GBO! :clapping:
Beat Bama!

There are coaches I would have liked better but they're not on your list and probably not realistic. Petersen for one, Patterson another.

There's a reason Miles still doesn't have a job after a year.

There's a reason Leach never gets those bigtime HC jobs.

There's a reason Sumlin just got fired from a similar level program.

And Lane Kiffin is just a particularly intelligent teenager. You can give him the keys to the car and he'll probably show some skills driving it, but you know he's going to end up totaling the damn thing.

Can you produce evidence that any of the names you mentioned were officially interviewed, let alone offered? Even the potential Leach deal from the "gone rogue" Currie is only rumored and not officially confirmed by either side, at least from what I've seen and read.

EDIT: And I'm not talking about folks having said they aren't interested in the Tennessee job. I mean official interviews and extended offers that were declined.

You have to avoid letting facts (like real interviews and offers proffered) cloud your judgement here! Because it was reported by some shyster, wannabe, click-baiting "journalist" on the internet, all those deals just have to be true. Tennessee was like the desperate ugly girl out flashing the good bits attempting unsuccessfully to get a date.

The never offered Kelly "rejected" Tennessee, and Gundy says nothing happened, but those will added to the Tennessee forklore (intended) as more of the coaches who were offered the position and spurned Tennessee - and why we are too poor, ugly, cheap, worthless or whatever to have good things.

You have to wonder if this degree of scatological analyis - the self loathing, outright stupidity, and unicorn worship - exists in all fanbases, or is Tennessee uniquely blessed.

Please, just go follow another team, we don't need you or want you if your not gonna stand with us. And that laughing stock thing is you, Leach is a nut, Miles I like but apparently he didn't want it, nor did Sumlin, who i really like, but Kiffin, he started this whole mess, and you all wanna give him a pass. And for all of you who think pruitt is not a good hire because he's never been hc, everyone starts somewhere, give the man a chance, or go follow Kiffin where ever he goes.

I just love that the OP posted this as a complaint, yet the results currently show 87% approval. :)

That's exactly why I stopped paying attention to the rumors. You never know what's accurate in the press nowadays. I just sat back to watch it play out once Fulmer was at the helm. I'm very pleased and even moreso as I hear more about Pruitt and the deal.
