I believe the head coach always picks the QB. My friend says Chaney has full control of the offense and picks the QB. Help me solve this debate.

I honestly don't know. I think Pruitt stays out of the offense but I also don't think JG is a typical Chaney coached QB. 🤷

Pruitt. HC's do not give that authority up. I'm sure he listens to Chaney and Weinke but no HC that you would even want relinquishes his authority to name the starter at the most important position on the field.

And as much as I truly like Pruitt... I think he's making a mistake and one that could cost him his job.

100% Chaney. You don't pay an OC what we pay Chaney and not let him make that call. Can Pruitt overrule...yeah. But he isn't the type of guy to do that unless Chaney was losing his mind.

He just got a contract extension. His job is safe right now.

I see no way that Chaney would remain in the employ of a HC that would mandate a lesser qb get the nod when it's his name on the offense. Either JG is the best option or we have issues on the staff. Actually either way we crack it I think this shows we have issues with the staff IMO.

Absolutely. Everyone will answer Pruitt because he said "JG is the guy" today. This is a head coach backing up his OC's decision.

... Sadly.

If your HC and the OC really don't agree, either the HC hired the wrong OC or your HC is the problem.

Honestly, I dont think Pruitt is just saying this guy is the QB without the input of the OC or to a lesser degree the QB coach.

Covid ruined UT's plans and it's that simple and UT is playing catch-up to the entire league except for maybe LSU and Vandy who had the same or more issues with the virus. The best laid plans can't account for which teams are going to be affected and to what degree. Under normal conditions HB would have a full spring practice and not missed any fall camp. Coach has addressed the issue with an added scrimmage right after a hard-fought game and will likely do it again soon. CP feels these newcomers were cheated out of valuable reps that they would normally get and he's trying to make up for it. There are quality athletes at these scrimages. All things considered, the staff is doing a good job and us fans need to be patient and keep things in the proper perspective and above all stay safe and protect each other.

Do you guys remember what it was like when we got to see Chaney's offense with Tyler Bray at QB? There is no way in my mind that Chaney does not remember that too.

JG has the last word. What other reason is there for JG to be starting at this point in his career when he has lost 16 of 25 games he has started.

Again, just because he can overrule doesn't mean he will. The question is not who makes the final call, the question is who chooses the QB.
No s**t , he may not overrule Chaney’s recommendation. Chaney makes the recommendation, Pruitt makes the call. You are playing word games that don’t amount to nothing. It’s Pruitt’s call or decision no matter how you want to word it.

To be fair the question is who chooses the starting QB not who has the final word. We all know Pruitt is the boss and has the final say in all things. Many have said Chaney is the head coach of the offense.
