He didn't do it on his own. He had half his offense helping to keep him up and pushing for the endzone. The flipside to that is that our defense kinda quit pushing back. Not sure if they thought they heard a whistle, but they gave up instead of continuing to push back. Just a microcosm of the program right now if I'm being honest.
I’m not at all saying JG should’ve been pulled in that game. It was too late then. That bust at the end was inexcusable no doubt but the D played well for the most part. There are plenty of things JG could have done to put the game away. He didn’t do those things. However when there was 20 seconds left in the game Taylor trying to jump a 15 yard out did send the game to OT.
And yes the BYU running back did drag Tennessee’s entire defensive line 5 yards for a game winning score.
JG was involved in none of those plays. Tennessee had leads in both of those situations. And from a coaches mind why would you pull JG in that game when you had the lead for the whole game for a freshman QB that throws picks in practice?
You got nothing to lose by throwing in Shrout, Mauer, or the transfer this week against UTC.
IF Mauer or Shrout don't make it, you can still redshirt one of them.
AND the transfer has college game experience.
GIVE IT A SHOT...YOU CAN'T GET ANY MORE EMBARRASSED.
Guys...
He averaged 10 yards a completion.
He had a TD at the beginning of the game
Had a TD at the end of the game.
Volnation, that's called having a complete game!
Lets PACK Neyland Stadium and watch our Vols as Jarrett Gaurantano makes his 3rd start of the season to take on the Mocs.!
Liked your post but Maurer may be better than a game manager. If not immediately, at some point. He has a little bit of that "Johnny Football" in him too. The coaches have remarked how he is able to make plays after the play breaks down.We need to find our base. As much of a fan of the potential of JG, he just does not have the football IQ to develop any further. He has no internal clock that tells him when to throw.
At this point, much like in 1988, we need our game manager. Jeff Francis was never going to compete for a Heismen, but he was a serviceable talent with a good football IQ.
We are at the point that we need to get someone that can understand basic football. Put in a run first mentality, and go play action. About a 60/40 or 55/45 split.
Focus on strength and conditioning, keep rotating a lot of linemen and RB, identify our talent at DB (not Taylor, he's got to go, he was lost), and turn every game into a gutter brawl.
We don't need "homeruns". Our backs showed last night we don't have breakaway speed or even a 2nd gear. Time to go ground and pound, try and keep it close enough that we are still in the game in the 4th qtr by stopping the mistakes, and hope we can gut out some wins.
And, he graduates as a jr with 1 class this year! Moron he ain't.Believe me, I completely understand being frustrated but there’s absolutely no excuse for calling JG a moron...
You really, really need to learn how to use blue font.Guys...

I think we all see things that should bench JG. Hopefully the staff does too. The thing we don't know is whether either of the other two could do better. We can easily say it is worth a try... but our jobs aren't on the line.96 % yes
4 % no
Hah... watch Pruitt will still roll with Bambi despite the fact that EVERYONE wants him benched
