If our Vols were somehow able to run the table in the regular season but lose the SEC Championship, would we still get invite to the playoff? What do you guys think?

The playoff committee hasn't put 2 teams from the same conference into the playoffs yet and my bet is they never will. There is so much money involved with making the playoffs that the voters, who are notable figures from all the P5 conferences, aren't going to leave 2 conferences completely out of it.

Nope...that would mean 2 SEC teams in the playoffs and that's just not gonna happen. The committee already has to leave 1 power 5 out, so leaving 2 out wont happen!

I voted 3 and 1. That's not a knock but those 4 games are gonna be hard back to back. Its almost unheard of for any team to go undefeated, especially in the SEC. That one loss is a toss up between A&M and Bama. Georgia has new QB and Florida is a big ole dumpster fire waiting to happen that will be fully engulfed by then.

I see a lot of people saying no to this, but what if the west rep is a 2 loss team? Will they exclude the SEC completely?

Yes. They would love a chance to leave out the SEC if they could. But, it also would depend on the W/L record of every other conference champ.

Depends on who it is, from the West.

A 2-loss SEC Champ LSU team? Probably out.

A 2-loss SEC Champ and defending national champ Bama team? Probably in.

This is one of the very, very few scenarios I can imagine where a 2-loss team gets into the playoffs above other conferences' 1-loss runner-ups (say a 1-loss Michigan or Ohio State or Clemson who didn't get to play in their conference CG).

2-2
UF win
UGA loss (letdown from big UF win)
TAMU win
UA loss (close match up, but tired)

Unfortunately, if we split UF/UGA, that'll make winning SECe very difficult without running the rest of SEC schedule, including Bama.

The conference office didn't do us any favors this year by putting our four toughest games all in a row.
Florida at home
Georgia on road
TAMU on road
Bama at home

That being said, how many do we win?
I say 2. Florida and Tamu
We go 10&2
UGA wins the East.
We go to Sugar Bowl

You like putting Butch Jones on the hot seat in 2017?

Losing the east 2 years in a row to first year coaches is UNACCEPTABLE.

If he can't win the east this year, we'll know he is not the answer.

Why would we have a letdown after the biggest win in the program in several years?

IMO there is no way we lose to Georgia after beating Florida.

The confidence of this team will be at an all-time high.

Poll is to a consensus.

75% of people expect us to go at least 11-1 next year.

Guess the 10-2 crowd is simply a loud minority.

Let's be honest, the poll is really asking if we're going 12-0, 11-1, etc....

Like most population samples, a few land on the side of 12-0. A few land on the side of 9-3 or worse. But most have us as either 10-2/11-1.

Unfortunatel, odds are that if we have two conference losses, we're not in ATL. In 24 years of divisional play, SECe winner has had more than one loss only 4 times.

4. I believe there is no reason not to win 4. Bama is four deep in top five recruiting classes and will be til Saban leaves. UGA and TA&M aren't slouches in the talent department either. We've got to start beating these teams sometime and I believe this is the year. A loss to any of the three could understandably happen. This should be 3 in a row against Fla. no excuses there to not end the streak.

Those who voted we dont win any or just one, make yourselves known and explain your reasoning. I think we win 3 and drop one to Bama.

The scary part is that almost all (4) Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M have equal talent to that of the Vols and in the SEC (especially on the road) anything can happen
Go Vols

I have a gut feeling that the Georgia game may be a road block for the Vols, but I sure hope I'm way off on this one however...
If Chubb is near 100%........who knows

Not really. There's nearly as many people saying we go 12-0 as there are saying we go 10-2.

I could easily say 75% of people in this poll have us going 11-1/12-0.

10-2 is a minority.

I believe we will win 3 of them (Florida, Georgia, and A&M) without a doubt and baring any major injuries (namely Dobbs/Hurd). I think we will be right there with Bama as well with the chance to win it just like last year but it could go either way so I can't count that one. The other 3 games I'm very confident about. Bama will be our only regular season loss if we can't pull it out and we will have a rematch in the SEC championship. I can't wait for football season.

I don't see how people are classifying A&M as a trap game. Yes, it's in the middle of a tough stretch, but trap games are usually those you expect to win rather easily and might overlook before a huge matchup.

Yes, we play Bama the next week but Kyle Field is one of the largest and most electric stadiums in the country. They are a top 4 program in the West over the past 5 years and they have a QB that has already beaten us once (granted he played a much worse team).

I just don't see Butch and the team looking past this one. Just cause we could lose it doesn't make it a trap game. The Vols will be prepared.

Its a trap game because:

1. Played after two biggest division rivals
2. UT is favored
3. A&M is an unknown
4. Then we get our most hated rival, and if we win games 1 and 2, it will be easy to look past TAMU.

That is the most classic example of a trap game I've ever seen.

I think we'll drop Bama or A&M but I voted 4 because I'm just a little too optimistic this season.
