Think TCU has to lose and then we are in. People can argue about TCU all they want (I don’t think they are very good) but they aren’t putting us in above an undefeated Big 12 champion. Just not happening.

I don’t think they’ll go undefeated.

I mean you have to at least have the understanding that OSU or Michigan has to be gone, and then in that case yes, if they picked the top four today and could only choose one big10 school we would go.

As of now no tcu will probably be 4th, but when Texas beats them next week we will be back at 4th, and to close the year we will be 3rd if we win out after Michigan Ohio state game…

Why? Michigan or Ohio State will lose. That bumps us in.

I don’t know that anyone has said an undefeated Big 12 champ TCU would be left out. They wouldn’t be - they’d be in along with us, Georgia, and the OSU/Michigan winner. We would be in over a one-loss Oregon or USC Pac 12 champ based on the strength of our record. And a two-loss LSU, even if they were to win the SECCG, would not get in, just like Penn State in 2016.

If we win out, we’re in. Case closed.

Assuming we win out without a close scare, I believe that in order to get bumped from the playoff, all three of the following would have to happen:

TCU wins out as undefeated B12 champ
Oregon wins out as 1-loss P12 champ
OSU/UM is a one possession game

If just ONE of the three things above doesn't end up happening, I think we're in.

I think a 1 loss PAC winner gets in also. Believe the committee will jump the pac winner to the 3 seed, JMO. I think the final spot is down to us and TCU.

As of RN, No.

But I'd give it about an 95% chance we are in if we win out.

What if TCU wins out and Oregon or USC is a 1 loss pac champ? I think we need 2 of the 3 not to happen.

1. UGA
2. Ohio St/Mich
3. TCU
4. PAC winner

That's a no right now. They are not in the playoffs as of today. They will be ranked 5th in the poll Tuesday. The committee will not let Tennessee land above an undefeated TCU, not after the ineffectual offensive showing Saturday.. Had Tennessee lost one of those 31-38 games, maybe, but the Vols didn't show. So, down to fifth.

The GREAT thing is, if anyone slips up, Tennessee WILL be moved back into the playoffs as long as they keep right on showing out. All Tennessee can do now is go out there and beat the hell out of everyone remaining on their schedule. Tennessee needs to win these last three games 56-3, 49-13, etc. They need to make their case to the committee and the polls. The best thing they can do after the Georgia loss is bounce back and show they're still a scoring machine. Show that while they lost to Georgia, they're still prolific and should get another shot. If they that, they will have a chance.

Definitely a debate to be had but I think Tennessee beats out a one loss Oregon based on our resume. In my opinion, it's why the #1 ranking in this years first CFP was so important

I think it will depend on what happens in the SECCG. If UGA wins out (likely) and the SECCG I think we are in. If UGA loses the SECCG they are still in unless they get blown out. The winner of the SECCG is in as well and UT goes to the Sugar Bowl. Great season either way. I know some of you are thinking if LSU beats UGA that LSU won't go because they have 2 loses. I don't see the committee leaving out the SEC Champ. This is about the 4 best teams at the end of the season. Sticky situation for sure. I also don't think we would beat LSU nearly as bad if at all if we played them again.

Valid argument. I respectfully disagree. IMO, our one loss to the 13-0 #1 seed on their home field, along with our strength of record, will trump what the Pac 12 champ has done in the eyes of the committee.

Also should note the Michigan AD is on the committee. That seems fair. Only one SEC AD, and that’s Kentucky. Maybe we should be rooting for Michigan to beat OSU? Would have to imagine the Michigan AD would lobby hard and obviously vote for a 1 loss Michigan over us B6D38A56-DD31-465C-BCE5-4C26DF4CED7A.jpeg

With no significant defensive stopping ability nor an SEC caliber secondary, Tennessee cannot play from behind and would end up like Michigan last year, with many questioning why that team was even there to begin with, the defense has to improve to allow the team to be competitive when the offense can't score touchdowns

No. See, the NCS playoffs occur December 31, 2023, not week 11. So the decision of which teams are in, occurs much later down the road, not now.

I just love helping my fellow Vols fans.

Regardless of what happens we should not complain. The committee gave us an opportunity ranked us 1 and we didn't handle business. Now it's out of our hands we do not control our own destiny
