Running Nico means bringing in something like the following: The Nate Peterman who started in the Swamp that one time, JG, who never really got it done, Quiten Dormady who never had it, never will, Will McBride, did that guy ever start? Keller Chryst, Lord Almighty! Maurer, Bailey, and Shrout Oh My! BJ Coleman, Nick Stephens and Matt Simms? I can't make these names up, but I don't ever want to go back down that list of names again. Please pay Nico what ever he wants, and O-line, please give Employee #8 more time to operate back there in the pocket already.
Nico had plenty of time to operate last year and was a middle of the pack QB in conference by every metric imaginable. Losing him MAY be the difference in a 9-3 and 7-5 season, but if letting him walk clears the way to land someone like Keys sacrificing a cheezit bowl for a music city bowl will be worth it in the long run

He has a ways to go to get there, considering he was middle of the pack in the SEC in almost all measures last year.
Pull any current 2026 QB draft board projection.

Nico is either just behind Arch or maybe 2 behind Arch.

Folks have said "he's not performed to standard" but all the NFL draft boards have him quite high. Obviously, it's early but he'd have to tank or someone else just go nuts to drop too far.

Just pull the draft boards for yourself for 2026.

Who cares? Right now his screwing with team chemistry and the locker room. I don’t care if he goes to another team, wins the Heisman and becomes the #1 overall pick. We don’t need him with this drama crap.

Well, people are saying "he's mediocre" and "he's average at best" and such.

If so, a helluva lot of NFL boards are getting it wrong.

I'll agree we don't need the drama but it's kind of like Dennis Rodman and the Bulls. The drama sucked but the 20 rebounds a game put you in the playoffs.

He has been average at best. By every stat you could conceive. His potential and projection is high which is why the NFL is enamored, but the results are lacking. I'm not really sure how that's a debate.

Yea it had nothing to do with the greatest player ever.

It was Jordan who pressed for Rodman because he wanted those rebounds at the risk of playing with a maniac.

Very much the wrong forum but Rodman was a huge circus but Jordan wanted him specifically. Sometimes a circus is worth it.

People called him out all last year especially after the Arkansas game. To not even throw up a prayer on the last play makes you really question his intelligence. Then you have the sunshine pumpers who blamed the O-line, receivers, and everyone else but him. He’s a mid player looking for something he doesn’t remotely deserve.
The bama game was the final nail in the coffin for him being this heisman winning “generational” talent. Can’t be missing WIDE open tds at home like he did in the 1st half. Guess we’ll have to wait till Faizon Brandon comes in. Yes everyone is high on merklenger but it’s spring ball. We won’t really know what kind of player he is till the fall.

And James Pearce was the No. 1 pick a year ago. Draft boards a year later are totally meaningless.

I really care less about the draft boards since I no longer watch NFL. But I do care about what he does at UT and so far he is middle of the pack in the SEC, if that high.

He missed a lot of wide open throws in pretty much every game.

Let him walk!! Good grief…besides him
And his daddy throwing the team under the bus due to his crap performance against any D with a pulse and talking to other schools DURING last season. How many times does a guy need to renegotiate?? You signed what you signed.
From everything I have read on here he has overthrown or behind his intended targets more than his backup all spring.
He probably realizes his NFL prospects aren’t quite up to where he thought they would be at this point when coming out of high school and knows this is the only money he will make in football.
So over this preMadonna. There is no way TN could ever pay him what him and his dad THINKS he’s worth. Let him walk and go to a school in a state with a state tax!

He didnt lead the Vols to the playoffs last year!! That was done by a great defense and RB in spite of him.
This all day long and three times on Saturday mornings!!!

His stats prove he is mediocre. The same people you are defending now said that Jamarcus Russell was a #1 pick. Nico didn’t put us in the playoffs. Our defense and run game did. Rodman was a stud before he got to Chicago. Bad comparison.

Idk how people can’t realize this after Dylan Samsons hammy died and he didn’t play in the cfp game.

Rodman was a circus. That was why I referenced him.

There's no guarantee Nico will be a first round pick but right now he's ahead of most SEC QBs on what matters which is his NFL future projection.

The notion here is that college is what's important but what's really important is the NFL and particularly the second contract. What Nico has to do between here and 2026 is about what he's done and show them potential at the Combine or Pro Day.

In that sense, he's not risking that much with this move which is definitely a d*ck move but not a particularly risky move for him as it relates to the NFL and his future.

if he bound by contract hold him to it if not let him go. nil has ruined college football.their needs to be a cap limit on the most that can be paid to a player so all school can compete.
