Nobody looking stupid since we were reacting to reports (whether true or false) and this poll and thread are purely hypothetical as stated in the original post.

Does the validity of the topic sway your vote? Like, oh I'll vote move on if reports are true and I'll vote keep if not true?
Stupid. Troll-tastic.

Nakos even doubled down by saying his information came from a source within the Tennessee staff he ‘trusts with his life.’ That didn’t sit well with Iamaleava’s father, Nic. Well, he wasn’t about to let that narrative fly. “More games being played off the field than on the field,” he fired back in a now-viral post. “Bi7ch Nakos from OnSports called and asked me directly. I told him I had no idea on what he’s talking about. He said his ‘close source’ that he trusts with his life from the University of Tennessee staff gave him this.” And with that, the gloves came off.

But he wasn’t done. The elder Iamaleava went one step further, adding, “Information. So y’all can ask them what’s going on, cuz it ain’t from us!” That quote struck a chord with Vols fans, who were already feeling a bit iffy about how NIL looked and who they could trust in the program. From the outside, it’s hard not to read between the lines. Is there actual smoke here or just click-chasing from reporters? Is Nico using the portal window as leverage for better compensation or guarantees? It’s unclear. But in this new frontier of CFB, where elite QBs operate with the leverage of CEOs, nothing can be dismissed too quickly.

He has all the leverage right now. Pay it and let’s go win the SEC! Fully invest in George’s development, in the meantime.
Where do you get the inclination that Nico can win the SEC? We need a QB that can read secondaries. Unless he made extensive improvements this spring he is a very average SEC QB.

Why are you certain Nico is better than the rest? What from last year makes you think: wow, he is the one.

He has everything to prove at this point. Statistically he was below average. Up to this point, he has been paid on potential alone.

Lets put this in real terms: nobody is paying you or me on our potential. Only on our actual results. We put these kids on a pedestal made of money that fans are contributing.
I am not 100% certain.

However history and logic should help one see that a 2nd year starter has a high probability of performing better than a first year guy.

I will never understand the mentality that the vocal minority of fans seem to have that makes them long for the back up QB. Maybe it's what keeps Vegas rolling in gold. Some people don't allow logic into their line of thinking and insist in believing that the next pull of the handle is the jackpot.

Some janky reporter makes a story from a "trusted source" and everyone loses their damn mind. The "reporter" is probably a moron and has no idea what he's talking about. Can we stop trashing Nico when no one really knows what the hell is going on? He's going to be a stud and everyone's dumping on him for rumors. Nico said just the other day he loves TN and he's not going anywhere. Man yall sure turn on folks fast. Guilty until proven innocent I guess.

lol
Ya, there are a lot of people being made fun of for this. There are places on this site and other sites too.

I get that people are very invested in Tennessee football but that doesn’t change the fact that a whole lot of stupidity came pouring out of them based on a bogus made up report.

The reporter asked Nico and His father what was happening and was told the truth but ran the report anyway.
And the overreaction crowd ate it up.

A VN Tradition
Calling people stupid for reacting to paying college football players what they want is totally ignorant. College football players do nothing to contribute to society compared to students and graduates of our great academic schools. College football is nothing more than a game. It has taken me a couple of generations to understand this but I finally realized that there is no such thing as a “student athlete.”

depends on what we can make work. If he demands more than we can/want to pay. let him walk. if its something we can work with, no reason not to.

Lol. Your post basically shows how stupid it all is.

Continuity is important. We have also yet to consider the fact that he MIGHT be doing this to take less money to allow UT to upgrade at other positions. About a 5% chance that's the case, but we don't know the whole story. I, for one, am still a BIG believer in Iamaleava

Naive, much?

This is the current state of the game, so don't hate the player, hate the game. Until it changes, we should pay up. Ohio State had the best team money could buy last year and it showed in the end. Its time to do what we gotta do to put a winning product on the field.

lol so he wants to renegotiate to take less money …

If that's the case, then we need to encourage him to leave so we can give 2M a year to a better QB. There are plenty.

Just by the odds, who would you rather have trying to read secondaries in the SEC:

A guy who did it, albeit not fabulously, last year
OR
one of two guys who've never had to try to do it?

Sure, Merk or G-Mac might be the next great young SEC QB but the odds say experience is better against SEC competition.

Let him walk. We’re paying him too much as it is to be a rebadged Jarret Guarantano. Use that money to lock up Keys and if Merk goes below .500 in SEC play this year they can always bring in a portal guy for the 26 season while Faizon Brandon redshirts

Plenty out there? Who, don' worry, I'll wait. And if you find one who is better, are you sure he's not already getting paid more than Nico? One thing is for sure, we are not getting a better quarterback on the roster between now and September, but Nico is a better quarterback for some other team, than what they currently have or could get. Pay Nico his current market value, or be average under center this year, those are the real options, unfortunately.

Nico is being paid over market and we were extremely average under center last year. I truly am baffled as to why people think Merk couldn't replicate sub 200 yard games and 9 total TDs in SEC play (6 of them against Vandy and MSU, practical no show the rest of the time).

I kept waiting for him to turn the corner. And QBs should be given time do to that. But I didn't see anything by the end of the season to suggest that that was happening.
