Let's say you are the decision maker. Would you renegotiate with Nico right now, or move on and let someone else pony up more money?

I understand that he's played one full season as a redshirt freshman. Has he done enough in your mind to earn more at this time? How do you feel about the timing of this during spring camp?

You know the worst thing about NIL? CFB fanbases are even more idiotic.

178 respondents prefer a worse season to save some money from a bank account they almost certainly never helped build.

Please give us a list of players that they draft experts were correct about. Cam Ward is not light years ahead of Howard. Howard can make the big plays, is a game manager it makes better decisions. The knock about Cam is that he doesn't make good and game decisions and that's a problem
Howard had better players around him on offense and the Ohio State defense was a whole lot better than Myami's. Cam has the better skills as a Qb but better players around Willie. (The NIL has just gotten out of hand and until a set standard is formed for everyone - a player is going to try and get what they can. Not a given they make the NFL, NBA, or MBL. )

I don’t think most are trying to save money, just not waste it. Dude wasn’t even close to good enough last season to be holding any SEC team hostage. Yeah he was a fantastic 7 on 7 QB…but so far that’s been about it

Why start a hypothetical to sow division?

Pathetic

You're assuming worse.

The worst thing about NIL isn't the fans. It's NIL existing in the 1st place. Or at least how it's implemented

From my perspective, the Nico experiment has failed to deliver results expected from a heralded athlete from a low level California football framework. The necessary growth and improvement simply are not there and the speed of the game, against the better SEC teams and Ohio State was problematic. Occasional flashes of incredible talent are dimmed by moments of Jonathan Crompton incompetence and Eric Ainge running out of the end zone so as not to get hit.

It's McIntyre time and Faison Brandon is still on track, perfect opportunity to get Nico out of the way on his own accord, he's not going to get any better and with a NIL deal that is more than twice what his entire front line deposits collectively, you wonder what the tone and the tenor of the locker room will be like and will those bulldozers actually block for a guy simply looking to loot the NIL exchange and continue to empty the wallets of the Tennessee fan base.

I am using history as a guide.

First year starters are rarely as good as experienced starters in this and all offneses.

It is absolutely ridiculous but "fans" really do love the back up QB more than anyone.

Will Howard is not an average QB. He is the best QB prospect in the 2025 draft. He makes all the throws and has all the tools to succeed at the next level. He played out of his mind. He was clearly the best player in the college football playoffs and it's not even close. Who was better?
Will Howard? Really? We will let the NFL draft decide if he is that good.

Since Nico does not have an employment contract with Tennessee, there is really nothing to discuss. At least that is how I understand it. If the NIL folks wanna pay him more, that is on them. And they are the ones that either look brilliant or stupid depending on the outcome. Or maybe I just don't understand the details of NIL.

Agree. All for players being able to market themselves using NIL but how I thought NIL would work and how it's working is miles apart.

I hear that Nico is being the model team mate and competitor and is not directly involved in this crap. His family and handlers are the greedy ones. This is a huge distraction for Nico and will cost him and the team in the long run.

Why are you certain Nico is better than the rest? What from last year makes you think: wow, he is the one.

He has everything to prove at this point. Statistically he was below average. Up to this point, he has been paid on potential alone.

Lets put this in real terms: nobody is paying you or me on our potential. Only on our actual results. We put these kids on a pedestal made of money that fans are contributing.

Nothing against Nico or his family. I hate this NIL era where there is unlimited bargaining power by the players. Let him walk. Even if he wins the Heisman and NC somewhere else.

All it takes is one Jackass to start a narrative false or not and this rabid fanbase jumps on it and takes it to the extreme. Truth, proof or validity have no bearing on the issue. Reminds me of how national politics work. Both parties are guilty of stating falsehoods and then they take on a life of their own. Reasonable people should be wary of all that is written and half of what's seen.
It's not just this fan base. This is all over national sports media today.
