No. But this isn’t a normal year for us. Normal would have been Nico coming back as the full time starter. And none of us know how good he would have been here. But he screwed us over. And Joey A came in here very late and has had to get used to a brand new system and a HUGE step up in competition in a hurry.

age is no excuse for losing, you can portal talent and older players.
This should not have to be explained. We have been saying this team is young for 4 years. Do you not understand "accountability"?

I don’t think “rebuilding years” are a thing now with the portal. JMO. This year could be an exception with the unusual way things played out with Nico.

How are we overachieving? We have beaten one team with a winning record, and they haven’t won a conference game in years.

If you have been in the top 5 recruiting wise for the previous 4 years, I would agree with you. If you haven't been, then you can't reload.

A team that goes 10-2 and makes the CFP then loses starters at QB, RB, 2 WR, 4 or 5 OL, 3 DL, 4 or 5 DBs is not going to reload without top 5 classes. that is the definition of a rebuild required and YET, its possible that UT could go 10-2 again in a rebuild year for most programs Losing that many starters I would expect a 7 or 8 win season at best..

I'm not ready to use the old school terminology to describe what happened to Tennessee. In fact maybe I never will use it. If your roster gets put in a blender every year, then there won't be any "rebuilding", but there will be something. The luck of the draw every year forever.

If this had been a rebuilding year in the old school sense, I'd say so, but it clearly wasn't. Nico was supposed to be a superstar for TN this year. That was the overall plan.

What about teams on probation who lose their clear cut returning sophomore QB that has just led you to playoffs and lost SEC best offensive player in Sampson and arguably the best corner in the country to injury. No rebuild in there at all? That's just simply plug and play? Nah, that's rebuilding bud

Elite teams don't rebuild. They replenish. And it's easier than ever to do that with the portal. So if we want to be an elite team, rebuilding can't really be on the table.

That being said, I do think folks are going to have to get used to losing 2-3 games a year as the norm, regardless who the coach is or how much talent we have. There are too many talented teams and too many SEC games that getting through the SEC schedule unscathed is just not a realistic expectation any more. That is just the state of the SEC and CFB in general right now. Even UGA and Bama both finished last year with 3 losses, and they could have easily had 1 more loss a piece.

If the SEC Champ this year ends up having 1 loss or less, I will honestly be surprised.

I would consider 9-3 (or we still have a shot at 10-2) in the regular season to be over-achieving, considering we lost Nico in the spring and McCoy, who was by far our best defensive player. You also have to consider that JA only had about a month in the offense before his first game. QB is the most important position on the field, so to be where we are right now offensively is pretty remarkable.

8-4 would be a disappointing given our remaining schedule. Though, it would actually meet the expectations of most of the media outlets (and most of our fans) prior to the season.

7-5 (or worse) would be really bad considering how talented this roster is. UK is legitimately terrible. I don't care if it's a road game, there is no excuse to lose this game. I also don't care how "tough" UF is at home. They have like 5 starters already out for the year, their HC is gone and many of players are going to be checking out (if they don't outright hit the portal before then). There is zero reason to lose in Gainesville with this roster. And finally, I don't really care what Vandy is doing, we have significantly more talent than they do on both sides of the ball. And we will be at home.

Because of the defensive losses I’d say yes but is this a rebuilding year for Alabama? Without the stupid mistakes we probably pull off the upset.
