as far as q.b.s go, this situation reminds me of 71, when i was in law school. the vols had graduated a fairly good one (bobby scott--not manning, but good) the year before and battle had several on the roster. the first game was against u.c.-santa barbara (they dropped football at the end of the season) and it was a struggle. the opposing coach said it was one of the best defenses he had ever seen, but that the vols had an offensive problem. boy!, did they ever. battle went through the whole roster and every one was a bust. he finally got down to a guy named maxwell. i had some classes with him in undergrad and didn't even know he played. the defense saved the season (11-1), but the whole year was a nightmare for the vol q.b.s. everyone was talking about this black kid from alabama on the freshman team. they had a home game with notre dame and as i recall the stadium was three fourths full, just to see him. his name was condredge holloway.
