I don't want to hear anything about smokescreens or Brinks trucks or airplanes next time we do this. It's all bollocks.
I agree. Although, when it does happen, I will be enjoying every moment of it and believing every single post even when they are contradictory.

Whether or not he turns out to be a good AD at UT will be proven out over several years. We should wait to judge then.

As far as the football hire goes, I’m not sure what else he could have done. Sounds like he went after some big names and had the cash and backing to execute the hire. He cannot make a candidate say yes.

We need to be realistic about where UT is these days. We are no longer elite. We can get there again, but we aren’t now. The roster looks like it is going to be in bad shape come next season. And we have sanctions looming. I cannot think of a good reason for someone who’s career is already on a good trajectory to take a chance with UT right now. It’s just where we’re at.

Im not excited about this hire, but I’m also not surprised.

Okay, so the OP's question reminds me of this quote from ancient Rome: "fortune and misfortune are the same to men of stout heart."*

Which is in turn an adaptation of the Stoic philosophy espoused by Socrates in ancient Greece.

Am I happy with Danny White? No. But neither am I unhappy with him. He is what he is, which is reportedly an extremely gifted Athletic Director. Given his reputation coming into this job less than 5 days ago (let that number sink in while asking folks to reach judgment), my guess is that he was thorough in his search and brought back to Knoxville the best head coach our circumstances would allow. Our circumstances. Would allow.

Given all that, more fitting to ask if we TRUST Danny White, wouldn't you say? At this point, yes, I do. But it's based entirely on his reputation before arriving. As for his performance as the Vols Athletic Director, I have high hopes and will support the man 100% as long as he's our AD.

Go Vols!

You have to remember DW inherited this mess, he didn't create it. With all of the violations who realistically would want the job? Wagging big bucks under a nose doesn't cut it when there are a reportedly 50+ violations.

Nobody knows who he actually went after. It’s all hearsay and allows us to say, well he got us the best he could. It’s the same story every search. Maybe he did swing for the fences and got turned down but only a handful of people will ever really know. As fans were left with hope that the people praising this hire are right and us hating it eating crow one day.

Ok, lets be realistic, Fulmer and Pruitt just killed TN football for a generation. But it's ok, Fulmer will get his $37.5K per month and I'm sure JP will get a significant portion of his buyout too. Thank God Fulmer loves the University of Tennessee, imagine the damage if he had hated UT.

Maybe his main job is to make sure we don't get any more major NCAA violations. He is not some kind of "coach whisperer" as some have suggested when he was hired. He struck out on a couple big names and then quickly turned to a coach he knew he could get. I think he should have looked at more coaches. I thought before hand that we would be at best mediocre for 4 years or more. I don't think Vol fans are that patient so it was going to be tough going for anyone but I wish him luck.
