A year or two ago there was a rumor that Maryland was installing a new BLACK FieldTurf surface. A couple of nights later I had a dream that UT installed Orange FieldTurf with white yard lines / numbers and checkerboard endzones just in time for the season opener.

I know it sounds crazy but in my dream it was glorious!

Anybody read the article from Tuesday on vq where Hart talks about facilities and fields What did he say?

Huh? You've never had grass stains on your clothes as a child playing outside?

Our white pants in junior high school would be covered in grass stains.

Yes, I've had grass stains. The facts are that UT was painting the field this year.

Hell no to field turf. That stuff sucks.

And even when natural grass fields get beat up I still think it's character is appealing.

Lotsa injuries directly related to synthetic turf. This is not even a real debatable issue, doesn't matter if someone does make a random poll about it.

If there was that many injuries directly related to the new stuff I don't think so many teams would be using it.

Keep the real grass and hire ECU's groundskeeper. Their field looks great for Dec.

Grass....it's more forgiving when u fall, cut, get legs hit when running, etc.

Unless you are putting a dome on neyland, keep the field as natural as the weather

NCAA made rules against doing this...unless you are already "grandfathered in" like Boise St

If the cows can't eat it how the hell are we going to feed bama's cheerleaders?

I just watched a game recently where a player went down because he got one or more of those rubber pellets in his eye that they use on these new turf surfaces. Apparently this stuff flies everywhere.

I've played on real grass. And I've been on the new turf a couple of times at Ravens stadium up here in Baltimore. The new turf is so incredible it's like playing on a sponge. you get grip to run but when you fall. It's soft. Even in the winter months. I would go with turf because of the new technology in it. And it improves every year as they study the results. Of course, so does the grass...... :)

Turf please. And for no other reason than I get so tired of reading about how bad the field looks. Always comes from the people that demand we have grass too..

I watched the same game. And it does fly around a little bit. That is the only time I've ever heard of it sidelining a player though. Probably not anything to really worry about
