Since many used Saban as the gold standard of football coaches, here is a little history on his career: He was hired as head coach at mid major Toledo and finished 9-2 and conference co-champion. Went to NFL as Def Cord. Hired at Mich St and went 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5. For his 4th year, the Spartans upset the No. 1 ranked Ohio State 2824 at Ohio Stadium. However, even after the upset and an early-season rout of then-highly ranked Notre Dame the Spartans finished 66, including three last-minute losses featuring turnovers, defensive lapses, and special-teams misplays, and failed to earn a bowl invitation. In his 6th year as HC at Mich St he went 9-2 beating all of the "big" teams on their schedule, but he also lost to (at that time) lowly Purdue and Wisc.
I'm am never going to predict CBJ to be better or even equal to Saban, but there is no way Saban would be allowed to be the HC at TENN with those kind of records, IF you didn't know he was going to learn and improve. Yes, I said coaches do learn and improve.
I don't think any nega Jones person can honestly argue that they would have kept Saban but fired Jones based on their records the first 4 years of their D1 career.
