Poll: Black Americans Support Colin Kaepernick. White People? Not So Much.

My take is that, since more and more players are joining in protest in various ways, this may snowball into normalcy in the next few seasons.

My hope is that there is some sort of meaningful change that pacifies everything. Like for example, Obama mass pardoning non-violent drug offenders.

People keep saying these protests (and others) won't result in anything, but I think there is a good chance they will.

The more this approaches normalcy the more impotent it becomes. It's a hashtag, a profile pic filter, a wristband. It doesn't accomplish anything. It lets people say I'm part of the movement, except nothing is moving. Action changes things. Gestures do nothing.
If that's what you need to tell yourself, okay. However, this is initiating a dialogue within a plethora of mediums, which is significant. It's almost forcing people to talk about it. Take VN, we have several threads onthis subject alone. Sure, most of it's full of middle aged white men having some sort of beef with it to various extents, but the dialogue is there.

I tend to agree.

I think it's fantasy to say anything will pacify everything.

I agree our justice system is too hard on drug offenders but I'm highly skeptical that the action referenced above would have any meaningful pacifying effect.

Obama might already do that.... Hasn't he already pardoned some.....I don't think it will have a positive effect bc it offends too many people.... IMO, they made a mistake continuing to do that on 9/11..... That's a day that should be set aside for all of America to come together and remember.

Most powerful man in the history of the world is Black. 8 years. Nothing changed. Kneel all you want..the time for change came and went like a fart in the wind.

Yes! Because we don't have enough crack/heroin/meth dealers on the streets as it is.

99.5% of non violent drug offenders are in for drug trafficking crack, meth, heroin...

I tend to agree.

And where is the dialogue going? Doesn't seem to be focused on what he's protesting. It's mainly focused on whether or not you agree with his methods. The "sacrifice" isn't equivalent to the cause. A hunger strike, a boycott of something, an actual action might get some attention. But just sitting isn't going to cut it. I don't think the average person looks a Kapernick sitting and says damn we need to do something about racial injustice. It's not compelling.

Everything starts with dialogue. I don't know how you quantify results from what he's doing but you're fooling yourself if you don't think this is making waves, one way or another.

His jersey sales are off the charts right now and he's donating a good cut of the money. There's something tangible for you.

Again, I think the budding dialogue is important.

Colin Kaepernick protest criticized by Rep. Steve King | SI.com

King also claimed that Kaepernick's girlfriend, who practices Islam, had changed his political views. Kaepernick is not Muslim, and he has blamed fears over his protest as well as Islamophobia for rumors about him converting.

“I understand that he has an Islamic girlfriend that is his fiancee and that this has changed him and has taken on some different political views along the way,” King said. "This is activism that's sympathetic to ISIS."

Kaepernick's girlfriend is MTV personality Nessa Diab.

King also said that if he were 49ers coach, Kaepernick wouldn't play unless he stopped protesting and asked for forgiveness.

Ahhh, the Stupid Sword always has two wonderfully sharp edges.

Powell is agood guy that most of you seem to hate by comments in other threads. Now he is the example for a great black man? Yall are funny.

Powell actually has respect from Black people and would get a lot of Black votes even as a R candidate. If he ran against HRC I and many other Black people would vote for him. Against another dem candidate I don't know.

Pretty much the same for rice.

Republicans don't even support the other two. They couldn't win the nom. Why would I support them?

Carson is a psycho who believes the pyramids were grain storage facilities.

Thomas has extreme conservative positions that 80% of the country doesn't agree with. Why would I support the most conservative justice when my stances on issues besides gun control are liberal?

Believe it or not Black people think for them selves and make decisions based on the issues. Dems align with our focus more than Repubs most times.

You mean their promises align with your focus. Can you tell me why blacks are worse off now than they were 50 years ago when LBJ decided the "great society" would keep blacks voting democratic for 200 years. It has certainly worked for 50 years and I don't see a change in the near future.

His motivation is obvious, good sex. Yes, he started dating an extremely hot activist 3 months ago and boom suddenly he must stand up for the oppressed. I get it Colin, you simply chose the wrong method of protest bro.:pepper:

I had to go check her out.... I don't blame him..... I would be protesting whatever cause as well.... The things we do for the love of the pink.
