I think there's more excitement around Brandon, but GMAC has been here longer and I'm assuming knows the offense better so I'm betting Heup goes with GMAC. Just a gut feeling.

Excited regardless of the choice. Talking to a Kentucky fan this week and telling them about it…they were pretty tired of hearing me be concerned about which of our TWO 5⭐️ prospects was going to win the job🤣
Needless to say this is a good problem, I think. Sign of a healthy program imo.

Thats generally not how Heupel does things. He picks a QB and rolls with them as the #1. Could be different this year but I doubt it. Think Faizon is close enough to win the job and Heupel banks on his higher ceiling and better mobility.

Well, I doubt in his (relatively) short HC career he has enjoyed the luxury of a decision like this. Having to choose between 2- 5 stars is not a bad problem to have in the grand scheme of things.

Let us not forget that Heupel is not infallible. He picked Milton going into 21 and unless Joe gets injured-who knows if we get to enjoy 2022 in the manner we did.

There are other considerations as well-let us not forget that we are pursuing another highly rated QB next year lol. I believe it's going to be important for him to show that both got a shot in live game action to ball out

I'm not saying that Faizon doesn't get the nod (I believe he will), I'm just saying we are gonna see a great deal of George as well. If Brandon is stalling and George comes in and things start rolling-there is going to be quite a bit of mental calculus going on inside the football offices

Edit-I suppose technically Heupel did have to make a decision in 2023 between two 5 stars. Wasn't Milton highly rated going to Michigan and then Nico of course. But if a different situation there I guess between a super senior transfer and a true freshman lol.

Joe would have played himself out of that starting job eventually. Just look at what he did against Ole Miss

Brandon had a ridiculous record in high school, 35-1 or something like that with multiple state championships which shows he knows how to win, and Brandon was a 5 star top 3 recruit. Macintyre was a 4 star and didn’t win anything at Brentwood academy
And Nico had great stats in HS, won lots of games in HS and looked good in practice at UT...... and was a serviceable but hardly spectacular QB.

If you think HS ability translates to automatic SEC ability, you're dead wrong.

Faizon may very well be a generational college QB but all the signs from HS pointed to Nico being a generational college QB. Is he?

And Nico is still ridiculously talented and likely still getting drafted high.

I'm skeptical.

Gifted, yes.
Talented, somewhat, but with a questionable work ethic.
Head case, for sure

He could mature. Lord knows most of us aren't the knuckleheads we were in our 20s. He's going to have to move past his family issues because the NFL does tolerate drama like we saw with him. He's extremely expendable at that level.

Gonna have to try them both out and see how each performs during a game. We are blessed to have these choices which is indicative of our improved recruiting efforts; exactly what processes have led to these improvements, I'm not sure, but it's better than say three to four years previous. Back to the QB pick - will Coach Heupel rely more on his gut or analytics?

This is the evaluation as i understand it.
Stronger arm...fb
Speed...fb
Strength...fb
Processing speed...mac
Accuracy...mac
Knowledge of offense...mac
Vision...mac
Intangibles... unknown
You tube video shows fb throwing a td out of the pocket to one of our receivers. Same sight shows mac escape the pocket to the right and throw a td on the run. People may be right when they say fb may have a higher ceiling and I will concede that point. But at this moment in time mac is the better option
My opinion from a lot of study but we are lucky to have both these young men
I agree, I like GMac, but my guts are just screaming that FB will be our guy. Wish we could keep both and alternate between the two, but I wish Heupel had a Steve Spurrier attitude. But Heup is a Schlitz man.

"If you've got two who can help you win, and there's not much difference between them, why not play both of them?" Spurrier said. "It's no different than any other position. At least, it never has been for me. There's nothing in the rulebook that says you have to play just one." -- Steve Spurrier

I think Brandon will get the first shot

Do I think there is going to be a "strict" QB1/QB2 situation for the first few weeks of the season-nope.

Probably different packages for different situations at the beginning. Both will get heavy play vs Furman-and probably GT depending on how that goes. If one hasn't clearly distanced himself with on the field results by gane 4 or 5 then we could be in trouble

Heupel (like us) is probably hoping one or the other is a serious gamer like Hooker when the whistle blows.
It reminds me a lot of 2004. Fulmer had never used the 2 QB system but 2 freshmen Brent Schaffer & Erik Ainge had surpassed Rick Clausen & CJ Leak for the top spot. Brent Schaffer ended up being the first true freshman to start a SEC game. I was pulling for Brent just thought the running ability would give us more upside as a team. He showed that some when he transferred to Ole Miss but as at least half were wrong as Erik Ainge ended up being QB-1 although he didnt start the first game. We will just have to see how it plays out. We ended up 10-3 in 2004 with a 2005 Cotton Bowl win over A&M 38 to 07 with 3rd string QB Rick Clausen being QB-1 as Ainge had a shoulder injury preventing him playing. Also Schaffer saw brief action at the Cotton Bowl as he was at the end of a collarbone injury recovery, completing 1 pass for 11 yards. So last time we had 2 freshmen QB vying for the job both were injured during that season. Buckle up.

I tend to agree with this....maybe similar to.... but not to the same extent of.....a Jesse Palmer-Doug Johnson type situation. CJH isn't known for this but neither was CSS until he did it. Time will tell.
On the same token...I disagree that we're in trouble if there's no separation or distancing by game 5....it's clearly possible for both to excel to much higher degrees and keep the competition close...as proof by the JP-DJ experiment.

Either way...it's a great time to be a VOL.
