Maurer leads Vols to TD at 4:21 remaining in Q1. Next series Maurer is knocked out at 1:19 remaining in Q1 after a 16 yard. completion giving the Vols 1st and 10 on the 36 yard line. JG enters the game. This drive ends in a FG making the score 14-10 Bama leads with 11:54 remaining in Q2.

It gets really sad and pathetic from here unfortunately as the Vols will only put 3 more points on the board in the final almost 3 full quarters.

The Vols had 3 drives enter the Bama redzone after Maurer's departure. Each with a 1st and goal opportunity. Out of 21 possible points for UT somehow the JG lead offense was actually outscored 7-6 in those 3 possessions. WTF?

After Tua's departure with the score 21-10. Bama's only offensive scoring drive was helped by an egregious unnecessary roughness call after a Jones incompletion on 3rd and 10 from Bama's own 24 yard line. The call prevented what would have been Bama's 3rd consecutive 3 and out and given the Vols yet again great starting field position with momentum coming off a previous drive that resulted in a Vols field goal. What can I say? The refs certainly didn't help the Vols out at all in this game.

Vols redzone possession lead by Maurer:
1. 1st and 10 from the 11 ends in Maurer 2 yd TD run. Vols called for holding causing 1st and 20 from the 21 after entering the redzone.

3 Vols redzone possessions lead by JG:
1. 1st and goal from the 5 ends in a made 37 yard field goal. After 1st and goal the team lost 15 yards of field position. Vols called for a false start on 1st down and holding on 2nd down causing 2nd and goal from the 20 during this drive.

2. 1st and goal from the 7 ends in a made 32 yard field goal. After 1st and goal the team lost 8 yards of field position. Vols called for holding causing 1st and goal from the 17 during this drive.

3. 1st and goal from the 2. Ends in a JG fumble on 4th and 1. Leads to a 100 yard TD return by Bama. Vols only redzone possession that was penalty free.

In 3 red zone offensive possessions lead by JG UT was outscored by Bama 7-6. The JG lead offense totalled -22 yards of offense after earning a 1st and goal opportunity in these 3 possessions. Again WTF?

JG was 1 for 6 for 10 yds in the redzone. All of his passes were in the first 2 redzone appearances. He did not attempt a pass on the 3rd trip that ended with his fumble.

I get the refs made it difficult hitting the Vols with holding calls on each of their first 3 redzone appearances taking a TD off the board and putting the Vols way behind the sticks. The difference being Maurer overcame the call and lead the team to a TD while the JG lead offense failed to recover from the adversity and put the ball into the endzone.

Final numbers that count for the QB's:
Maurer leads team to 7 points in one quarter of play and gives Bama 0 points. +7 total (1 for 1 in redzone TD's)
JG leads team to 6 points in 3 quarters of play and gave Bama 7. -1 total. (0-3 in redzone TD's )

Each team had 4 offensive possessions that should have lead to scores.
Bama scores 28 of 28 possible points.
Vols score 13 of 28 possible points and gave Bama 7 points to boot.

When it comes down to it. On this 3rd Saturday in October the Vols could not overcome the cheap shot causing the loss of Maurer, the refs blatantly obvious one sided called game, and well unfortunately it's own backup QB, JG.

JG literally scored more points for Bama than he did for his own team. Again WTF?

Hey what happened when we went hurry up in the wild cat down in the red zone? I can’t remember if the ref blew the whistle and no penalty was called or if he allowed the Bama D to get set...Did we substitute on that play? I just remember yelling at the TV cause it seemed shady. I think we had a false start the very next play

I don't think that's correct.

Tua did throw an INT on Bama's 2nd possession from the 2 yard line that I forgot about. Bama had 5 possessions to possibly score. They were 28 of a possible 35 offensively.
