POG today is

Possibly the greatest Vol victory (while down 2 starters) over a hated rival in UT basketball history.
Few, if any, could have expected this.
Certainly the greatest Saturday Vol victory while down 2 starters against a top 5 team playing at home at noon on the first day of February.

It may not seem like it, and we tend to have selective memories, perhaps remembering the late TO against UK, but Gainey only has 21 TOs on the season. That's 1 per game.
Outside of the UK game, Gainey has been good this year. He wasn’t himself that game but no one really was. I’m guessing the Auburn game took a good bit out of them. We still almost won that game even though we couldn’t have played more poorly offensively. We will beat Kentucky at Rupp.

I agree with this. I was less optimistic for the Ky game, and more optimistic for this one. Obviously, with ZZ out, my optimism was tempered today.

Gainey's PG play today should give Barnes some confidence he can give ZZ more rest during games and haven no drop off.

To be fair. Whenever ZZ has gone out in previous games the offense has not looked with Gainey running PG. Great game by Gainey though. One of the main reasons we won.

Jordan Gainey

16 points, 4 boards, and 4 assists while running the point for over 30 minutes replacing ZZZ.

Loads of contributions from all 7 guys.

Play of the Game: Mashack steal pass up to Cade, pass to Boswell and back to Cade for the slam without the ball ever touching the court - just beautiful!
Thing of beauty!!!

Honorable mention Felix Okpara and team Defense. Everybody played solid D today, it took the pressure off our offense.
Yes it did. Just like Florida's girl stalking coach said, if he had known we were going to score 64 before the game again, he would have felt even better coming into this game. Our defense was spectacular. The first half there was almost nothing they got without an intense challenge. The second half was similar, but they did get a few open looks and missed them thankfully.

And I guess the season is not lost after all and Barnes should coach at least one more week…
Oh, my friend. Just wait until the next loss. They'll be clamoring for this garbage again. We are literally in the Golden Age of Vol Hoops, and these snowflakes melt every time we're not the 69' UCLA Bruins. Blows my mind how many are emotionally unstable.

I'd say it's not easy to play with/recovering from the flu (unless you're MJ lol)

Even though he was great against UF, Gainey still has problems with ball control. Dribbles pretty loose and off his own foot pretty often. I hope this game was enough for him to build more confidence running point

Not only that, he was coming off a tough and physical road game. His legs just weren’t the same and you’re not going to shoot well if your legs are tired. That’s why Gainey made that incredible step back 3 against Florida, his legs still had good life. That and he squared his shoulders well. It was a great shot.
